2009 Cobalt blue Springer VS 2009 CVO Ultra
« on: January 31, 2012, 09:48:26 PM »

Might have a chance to trade with some $$$ my 2009 Cobalt blue springer for a 2009 Silver CVO Ultra. 2 totally different bikes. I love my Springer but the comfort on long rides is not so good. So some feedback would be appreciated. Here is the deal. my springer has 9500 miles new tires, diamond cut heads & cylinders,HD race tuner,HD bolt cover kit & I added a 2008 tach assy with the risers. The Ultra is a silver/blue 2 tone,Vance & hines pipes but no tuner. There apparently was a engine failure & had to be repaired at the dealer.Think the chains for the cam went bad.13,000 miles. Dealer is looking for 6 grand & my bike. I am thinking around 4. Thoughts?

your bike new, 27g's

that bike new, 36g's

9grand diff

if you can get a warranty on the 09 go for it if you like it

cant beat the CVO Ultra

even at 6g's difference your winning

there was a needle bearing problem on the cam lifters on many of the 09's, I would check that out to see if that was the problem

mine blew at 29k

my buddies blew at 26k

I will ask them to be specific on what happend. So what parts had to be replaced. The sales mgr said the cases were replaced. What did you have to do to repair yours?

the lifter grenaded and basically destroyed the entire motor

harley replaced pretty much everything with brand new parts, except the jugs they paid $110 to have them resleeved

As long as you can get a warranty on the Ultra sounds like a great deal!

However, make sure this is really what you want to do ; like you stated those bikes could not be more different.  I had similar feelings as all my buddies have road kings or street glides, they were relaxing on long rides and I was holding on!!

However, I installed a HD removable windshield, detachable saddle bags, new seat, some 13" Apes and forward control extensions which GREATLY improved the long ride comfort of my bike.

Now I am able to go on long rides (~400 miles....actually did San Diego to Sturgis ~2,000 miles in ~4 days with no problem) and now when I arrive I can just remove the windshield/bags and have a perfect around the town cruiser and could not be happier.

Just make sure this is really what you want, as with some add ons you can make the springer a much more comfortable ride.

If you can, keep 'em both!

I have a 2008 SEUC & a 2009 SE Springer...like to ride both, SEUC for long trips.

Am thinking about trading both for a 2013 Anniversary SEUC, we'll see...

I would if I had the room. This is my 3rd bike. I have a 1984 FXSB Low Rider I bought new & a 1954 FL Panhead I built/restored in 1992.

Too bad you don't have room for another bike.  I have an '08 SEUC with 37k on the clock and just got a '07 SE Springer.  I love the new bike, but wouldn't be without the Ultra.  Nothing better on long trips.  I traded two bikes to get the Ultra.  I couldn't afford both but who cares, I'll make it work.

If you don't miss it already.....there probably won't be any looking back....as you adjust to your new comfort level. :2vrolijk_21:

Well, the deal fell through at the dealer for the Ultra so I put mine on ebay. Its up to 23,000 and it has hit reserve so its as good as sold. I am looking at several 09 Ultras now. Most are going for 27K and up. Gonna throw out some offers soon. Like the red ones but the one with the lowest miles right now is Silver. Anybody see one of these close up? Kinda like the red.Bob

Well, looks like I will be picking up a 2009 Ultra CVO with 5000 miles next Sunday. Twilight silver/blue. Hope I made the right choice. The Springer went to Austraila, so no chance on getting it back! :-\

Picked up the Ultra on Sunday 3/11. Its really nice. Silver & blue, quite the porker though. Damm this thing is heavy! So different from the Springer. Been nice here in NY so been able to ride it. Going to take awhile to get used to this behemoth.
