Trailer Hitches
« on: February 09, 2012, 02:29:16 PM »

I was just on the Bushtec website, and they have at least 3 different
hitch models for 2009 and newer FLH bikes. I see they have one listed
for the 2011 CVO Roadglide only. I then went to the Rivco site and they
only list one for all 2009 & newer FLH's.

Can someone with knowledge on this subject, pipe in.
I have a friend that is going to put a hitch on his 2011 CVO RG.

Thanks,
Taz

Bushtec's hitch for CVO takes into account for no bumper below the fender. I do not know anything about the other but my guess is it would hang down to far.

Taz, don't know about the other brands but I put a Bushtec hitch on my '11 RUSE and used the model specific for it.  They said they had to modify the center section of the hitch to keep it from contacting the tire.  I guess  :nixweiss: with the bigger diameter wheel on the RUSEs it posed a problem.  Even using that specific hitch the center section was way close to the tire but worked just fine.

When I got my '12 CUSE7 I put the hitch from my RUSE on it.  Fits fine and have a LOT more clearance between it and the tire.

And whether flt/ruse or flh/cuse Bushtec's hitches are different for the CVO bikes which do not have the rubber bumpers.  On my '07 cuse2 with no bumper I had to add the chrome v-rail in order to close that ugly gap.

On my 04 Seeg I took a kuryakyn hitch cut it to raise it up to match with my fender because There was no way a rubber bumper was going on my bike and i didn't want the 2 inch gap so I cut and rewelded it and had it all rechromed again any you wouldn't  believe  how many people have tried to but that hitch even for a regular ultra because they don't like the bumper

Taz asked for some photos of the Bushtec hitch installed.
Here are a couple of my '07 cuse2.  This is the original style hitch before they designed one to fit naked rear fenders like the CVOs have.  I added the chrome v-rail to fill the gap between the fender and the hitch.

These two are of my '12 cuse7 with the hitch I originally had on my '11 ruse.  It fits up to the fender nicely.  The receiver channel does hang down a bit from the hitch.  I don't know if that is unique to the hitch made for the '11 ruse but I suspect the channel was lowered in order to provide more clearance to the tire when the hitch was installed as it goes in at an angle toward the tire.  I may call Bushtec and inquire.  If the channel is flush with the center section of the hitch for the CVO EGlides then I can just replace that section as the side sections are the same.

bushtec makes good quality hitch, and wiring harness. but hitch will not work with vance&hines hi-output slipons due to the mount of the muffler not allowing enough clearance

Very nice job. I added velcro so my trailer wires would always be out of sight when not in use.
I also used the hitch lock so you couls not see the pin lock. I like the new hitches better then
the one I have, (1 size fit all).
