21" Front Wheel, kick stand adjustment?
« on: February 15, 2012, 03:12:58 PM »

Just put a 21" Renegade front wheel on my street glide with a lowering kit.  Love the looks and still drives great.  A question for the experienced:  Is there a kickstand adjustment, the bike is leaning a little too far for my comfort level.  The leaning is putting more weight on the kickstand which could sink very easily on anything but concrete.

No adjustment that I'm aware of. You will probably have to get a different length jiffy stand.

If you really need to adjust it the common old options were wedge kits.  Just an angled piece of stock that goes between the kickstand bracket and the frame.  Been around as a solution for lowered bikes forever.

There is no adjustment as such, but a little back yard engineering might solve the problem.  The aftermarket has sold angle plates for years that when bolted between the frame and jiffy stand mount would change the angle of the stand, either standing it up straighter or laying it down a little lower.  I have no idea if anyone makes one to fit the late model Touring frames, but you might try the Drag Specialties or J&P catalogs for either a longer arm or an angle plate to fit your bike.  Be careful not to go overboard, since you don't want the bike to highside if someone bumps it or a big wind gust hits it.  Better to have the bike lean a little too much to the left than have it highside.

BTW, if all you're worried about is sinking into asphalt or other soft surfaces, carry one of the jiffy stand pads with you.  I always have one with me, and it definitely gets used if I have to park on iffy surfaces.

If the new wheel changed the height of the bike then you either need to lower more or possibly change your rear wheel size. I was just reading a thread on another forum that had a link to a wheel size calculator that can tell you how all the dims change for different size wheels and tires. You should have took some measurements before your mods. so you know your target height. You have also changed your trail now which can adversely affect handling. Best is to try and maintain your stock height. The links are below. There is no kickstand adjustment. you can buy longer and shorter ones. Somebody also makes a wedge plate that goes behind the kickstand mount and angles it out. good luck! Face

When the Harley dealer put the drop kit on, he said that it would lower the bike about one inch.  I did not change shocks as I've read that some have.  Any thoughts on how I can easily lower the front end a little more?

If there are spacers in the forks you can cut some off of them. Usually made from a piece of 1" pvc. I used a tubing cutter in the past to shorten them. Unfortenitly you will have to drop the forks out of the upper tree to get the caps off. Face

Could you post a picture with the bike on the stand?

As you can see, it's leaning a little too far for my comfort level.

Did you ever solve this problem?

I have 18" wheels on my FLHTCUSE2 and it leans over way too far.  I'm afraid the kick stand is going to fail from all the weight.  I have tred bending whcih worked great but now the stand folds up under the bike and misses the frame.

Upside down wedges can't be installed because the left front floorboard support bracket bolts up to the face of the reard jiffy stand brackets.

The PM 1" extended jiffy stand only elevated the bike about 1/16 of an inch.  One inch extension at that angle doesn't hardly give any verticle change.

Any ideas? :jack:

I never did solve the problem.  At home, I always slid a 2x4 under the stand and that made it lean about right.  I've since traded bike's, so I guess I don't have to worry about that problem any longer.  Good luck, I wish I had a better answer for you.

That is what I have to do....attached a string to it so I can easily remove it from the lower and toss it to the ground while holding the string....which makes it easier to retrieve ......PITA

I had the opposite prob with the lowering of my '03.  Jiffystand was too long to get enough lean.  Used the little wedge that mounts on the topside of the jiffystand.  A larger front wheel makes the bike lean too much so the above advice is right on for that situation.

Did anyone else here use the old excuse: "It's a CVO, I won't have to spend any more money on it, it's got everything!" to justify buying one of these?  I didn't even make it a month before I started in on it with addons and changes.  We are worse than our wives "saving money" as they spew cash at a 20% off sale.  ;)
