I was going to suggest a Switchback with custom paint. Then I checked the specs...seat height is identical. Odd, I expected the "Road Queen" to be lower. It is a lot lighter.

I sat on one of those in the HDHD showroom a couple of days ago and it sets really low, feels lower than my RGCustom before the seat change forsure! I could ride it easily the way it is now. But that is the most expensive fix of all... A new bike!!!!  :)

How does the Convertible fit her?

Jerry
The Convertible is a perfect fit for her.  The bad thing is she rode my SESG this past weekend and absolutely fell in love with the ride and said what if.  You know the rest of the story from there. Measured her on the bike(SESG) tonight and her heels were off the ground 1 1/2 in.  When we pick the bike up they are going to put the reach seat on and let her try it. Keep posting ideas and we are gonna make this work out.

My wife is looking at getting 2012 SESG and really needs it to be lowered a little to be flat footed. She is 5'4'" and just doesn't feel confortable sitting on mine(2012 SESG).  She said she would rather not change the seat out to make this work.  Was wondering if anyone had lowered one with good results. Did a search and most most mods were done in 2010 when the SESG first came out and was wondering if someone had come up with something new.

Danny

A wife is 5'2" and comfortably rides an Ultra.  Tried a H-D reach seat and hated it. Just sayin'.  We had the bike lowered BOTH front and rear and that did the trick.

As previously mentioned, the Street Glide comes with lowered rear shocks, so you're halfway there.
Lowering the front makes all the difference... Even though it's only a little over an inch!
When you lower the front the bars drop and so does the tank and front portion of the seat allowing a much easy reach to the ground.
On top of that I'm certain that the SG seat is not as padded as the Ultra, so it should be even lower than my wife's.

The cost for parts to do the front is approx $200. but it's the labour that makes it expensive.  But then again, how can you ever put a price on your wife's happiness?

I only used H-D parts to lower both the front & rear and would suggest the same for your wife's ride.

Good luck with your project and I'm confident she'll be happy.  My wife absolutely loves her Ultra.

Have you seen the FBI drop seat kit. It's alittle more expensive but really makes the bike look cool and would definately get her feet on the ground.

I have the FBI 3" narrow drop seat kit. 10 3/4 Bitubo shocks with lowering blocks and I changed to 1" lower front springs. I still had to have the seat cut in order to be flat footed and I'm 5'5". The Narrow Drop seat kit would be better in my opinion if it did not move you forward 2"'s onto the hump of the frame instead of in the cut out of the new drop frame. I have dragged a few times when I was a little to aggressive in the turns. I would not recommend these mods for a timid rider. I am still in search of a better alternative.

When we were considering what to do with my wife's 09 Street Glide, we had an opportunity to sit on a Street Glide that had the FBI kit.  While it had the "look cool" feature for me, it was wider than the stock position seat and so that countered the lower height for the wife.  She said her legs were spread out way to far for her to feel secure with that position.

With the FBI kit, you also have to use their seat which is shaped kind of weird as far as actual sitting position goes. :nixweiss:

If you're going to lower the front forks an inch, I would HIGHLY recommend that you NOT use the HD lowering "kit".  For another $100 in parts, you can put the Progressive Monotubes (1" lower version) in the forks...the labor will be the same, regardless.  You will accomplish the same goal, but the ride will be 100% better than HD parts.  Just ask anyone who has an '04/'05 SEEG that was already lowered an inch front and rear from the factory, and has changed the front end out to either Progressive Monotubes or Traxxion what the difference in ride is.  Stock HD front fork components are about as bad as they come, from any manufacturer.  Low bid, cheapest Showa parts....junk.

Ok Guys,
I'm 5'1" and have an 11 SESG. I did two things. 1st, I put a Danny Gray Speed Cradle on it (it is a little narrower in the front plus I like the solo look). 2nd, I went to our local shoe shop and they put a new set of heals on my boots that added 1/2 to 3/4" on the boot. They still feel the same (comfortable) but give me just enough to be flat footed and to give me traction to pull the bike backwards. I have a friend who is 5' even that rides a 2010 Street Glide. Her husband put the hydraulic lift on hers so she can drop it down to back up and raise it up to ride.

As I recall one of the members here on the west coast put smaller wheels on his wife's bike.  17" on the rear...not sure on the front.  I think JCZ would know who that was and the other details.........

I installed the Legend air shocks on my 2010 SESG. I'm very pleased with it. Compressor installs on the bottom of the frame, great directions, easy install and looks great slammed down. The only con is the price, paid around $1400 for the system but it was worth it to me. Nothing beat safety and comfort!

The bike has been lowered.  Going to pick it up tomorrow or Friday.  Changed out the rear shocks and put the progressive lowering kit on the front.  According to the shop it lowered the bike about 1 1/2 inches.  Will post pics and a report how the bike rides and handles after this weekend.

I think that is so awesome that you are working so hard to get it "right" for your wife so she can ride a Streetglide.  When I read stories like this it gives me hope that not all men are chits  :lolk:

Please keep in mind (remind her to keep in mind) that will reduce her lean angle considerably.  She'll most likely not notice that right away but after riding the bike for a year or so and she gets comfortable with it and leans into the turns a bit more then she'll notice it.  My wife and my Street Glides are both stock height and we both grind the floor boards.
