Ok, so it appears they got out of this relatively unscathed.  Lucky.
Looks like it's still moving (sparks from floorboard). :(

Twolane,I agree with you on the bag guards. But you wouldnt get yourself in that situation, would you.Especially with that beauty Road King you built.

God I hope not.  But I'm as capable of screwing up as anyone else.  The day I forget that I'll be the one with my ass on the ground.

I still have this vivid snapshot image in my head.  Coming through Paducah, KY several years ago.  In the rain on a great Road King I used to have.  Women came out against the red from a mall parking lot in a Ford Explorer.  I was in the middle of three lanes all going my direction.  Only place I could go to avoid t-boning the Explorer was to lay the bike down on its ride side.

Down we went and sliding we go.  I looked at just the moment to see my right leg under the bike as it comes down on both front and rear crash bars and begins to slide off in front of me.  The bike slide nice and straight though I rolled a bit.  But my leg was unhurt.  Would'be been smashed if not for the rear guard.

Nearly always had rear guards before that.  If not specifically for that reason just because they protect bags in the case of the inevitable drop.  But after that image stuck in my head it was a more certain requirement.

The rear Lindby bars were part of the plan for the Road King.  But they wouldn't quite fit with the FatCats.  Then landing fixation took hold and I was more interested in getting the bike done than working out a problem.  Rear bars are something I'll eventually get back to for that bike.

Follow the two shots and it appears as if, pretty sparks notwithstanding, they were fortunate enough to be going slowly.  Very little distance from early scrapes and the back wheel off the ground to the point where it's about all done.  Just glad they are mostly unhurt.

Notice his license plate - Florida. Not many curvy roads to practice on down there.

I saw this a while back somewhere...three things jump out at me.  The crash bars do what they're supposed to do, at least in this case.  Both of them having the boots on probably saved their feet from being hurt more.  They both needed to at least have gloves on...I'll bet her hand did not fare too well.  Notice that is the very first thing she did when she knew she was going to hit the pavement...stick her hand down.  That's why I won't ever ride without gloves on, and over the ankle boots. Hopefully, she just got some road rash here and there, and no broken fingers or wrist.  She appears to have lucked out and not involved her back...that would have been ugly and painful.

Fortunately, they were going slow.

That's what will likely happen Mike.  It was oh-so-close too.  But was still a no-go at the time.  Some weekend at the buddy's shop with the tubing bender.  The guards will get back on eventually though.

Amen Terry.  You won't catch me on a bike without full finger gloves, over the ankle boots (Cruiserworks 99.9% of the time), at least a 3/4 helmet (most often a modular) and a long sleeve shirt (even in hot weather - most of the time).  I am not anal or scared.  But I know from experience how quickly chit happens and you are in trouble if you don't have protective gear.

Of course, both my 04 SEEG's came without rear crash bars, but their addition was about the first alteration I made to them both.

They survived my deer encounter with my first 04 SEEG relatively well - at least better than most of the bike!

After seeing the way they were dressed, I was sure they were going to be hamburger meat.  I am pleased they look like very thing looks okay.
