Twolane,I agree with you on the bag guards. But you wouldnt get yourself in that situation, would you.Especially with that beauty Road King you built.
God I hope not. But I'm as capable of screwing up as anyone else. The day I forget that I'll be the one with my ass on the ground.
I still have this vivid snapshot image in my head. Coming through Paducah, KY several years ago. In the rain on a great Road King I used to have. Women came out against the red from a mall parking lot in a Ford Explorer. I was in the middle of three lanes all going my direction. Only place I could go to avoid t-boning the Explorer was to lay the bike down on its ride side.
Down we went and sliding we go. I looked at just the moment to see my right leg under the bike as it comes down on both front and rear crash bars and begins to slide off in front of me. The bike slide nice and straight though I rolled a bit. But my leg was unhurt. Would'be been smashed if not for the rear guard.
Nearly always had rear guards before that. If not specifically for that reason just because they protect bags in the case of the inevitable drop. But after that image stuck in my head it was a more certain requirement.
The rear Lindby bars were part of the plan for the Road King. But they wouldn't quite fit with the FatCats. Then landing fixation took hold and I was more interested in getting the bike done than working out a problem. Rear bars are something I'll eventually get back to for that bike.
