I thought this was interesting.  It is a subpoena for the hunt for the Craigslist killer and the information that Facebook supplied to them.

Just throwing this out there...I don't do Facebook! A lot of my friends don't do Facebook. I'm not going to do Facebook. If you're a vendor and you're doing business only on Facebook with links, you're not going to get my business. That is not to infer that I won't do business with you BECAUSE you're on Facebook, it means if you want my business you'll have to offer alternatives to us "personal privacy knuckledraggers". I'm not going to join Facebook just to save 10% off of a product.

I have my opinions about Facebook; the bad outweighs the good...That said, Facebook is a great business tool, no question about that, but in the end, I think many will regret it on the personal side. I've already witnessed relationships ruined as well as many jobs lost and never hired because of it.  Case in point; "Sixgun has checked in at the Crazy Horse 2 in Las Vegas"! Really something you don't care to share with your wife or girlfriend (while you're at the SHOT show) no matter how great your relationship is. You're out with the boys, but some buffoon that can't go to the bathroom without letting his 237 friends know about it can't stay off the "check in" button. Why do I even know about that? No, my girlfriend does not care if I go out with the boys or where, but I, or anyone not involved in my relationship,  dosen't have to rub her nose in it, get my drift?

If your job requires a security clearance and you're on Facebook...you're an IDIOT!

It's like a new drug, it's FDA approved, but nobody knows the long term side effects.

That's my rant...It's a nice day and I'm off for a ride!
I agree! for the good it does for some folks. many many people will pay a terrible price and already have. but it their choice as smoking, drinking and riding overpriced motorcycles. (not harleys though) I myself do not have FB and will not, hear enough from other folks to know its not for me.

Like anything else...don't put something on there that you don't want other people to know.  Don't say anything in an e-mail that you might regret later.  Don't make any phone calls that might implicate you in something you'd rather not be implicated in.  None of it is private when it comes right down to it...it's all information that can be discovered if somebody wants to and has the ability or authority.

Every Google search you do is recorded in a HUGE database that is never deleted...and it's tied to your IP address.

The only thing truly private is a conversation between two people, face to face.

I have private conversations all the time with the voices in my head. Let the government track them. No hackers have ever gotten to those conversations, but they can try.
As for FB, it is what it is.

Conversations with yourself are indeed private as long as you don't talk to yourself...and answer....outloud.  :huepfenlol2:

Facebook is useful for me to keep up with my nieces/nephews, sister, and a couple of old friends I've found on there.  Keeps me from having to yap on the phone with them, which takes longer than a quick post or "Like".

I'm not doing anything illegal in my old age, so they wouldn't hear much except complaints about bodily functions, and me talking to myself... ;)

This might be an eyeopener.  Facebook is allowing you to download the information they have collected on you:

Well on a positive note, i have a Facebook acount and was surprised today with a personal message from an ol buddy from my Navy days, inviting me to join a Facebook group for our old Patrol Boat. Its great, many of the guys are there, pics of things i had forgotten about, and i'm sure lots of banter to follow. I can't see to many negatives in that. Just a good way to connect with people, if your carefull with your personal info, then i think its fine. Lets face it, we have to be carefull with our personal info everywhere now days. Not just Facebook.
