Now I'm curious.  Did they pull you over while they were on a motorcycle, or were you trying to ride a motorcycle in an airport or subway or rail yard and they nabbed you?

As far as I know, the TSA folks don't have jurisdiction on your local roads and highways, so I'm doubting they would be patrolling regular streets and pulling over anyone unless they were supporting the local or state police.

Apparently, the TSA has been involved in joint operations with the Department of Homeland Security Visible Intermodal Prevention and Response (VIPR) teams, stopping vehicles and searching for whatever...just wondered if its come to a interstate near you.  They have been training over here in WA state. Just curious?

That smells of someone looking for reasons/ways to justify or expand a budget line; and not much else.

Yes indeed.  Reminds me of that line that goes something like "I'm from the government and I'm here to help".  Same thing happens in the corporate world, except the statement changes to "I'm from corporate and I'm here to help".  In both cases the "help" is often unwelcome and counterproductive, but it does keep more folks employed I suppose.

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

A big, stinking, pile of BS  :smilie_daumenneg:

So they'll end up busting a few more people for having a bag of weed or a couple of joints, taking up more space in jails, spending more $$ in the court system for another victimless "crime".

Define "suspicious behavior" within a context that can be interpreted the same way by every single person...

So if some other citizen doesn't like the way you look, they are encouraging them to call the authorities and report you so that you can be pulled over, searched, and generally harrassed by some people who get their rocks off doing such things.  All without probable cause.

The terrorists are definitely winning... :soapbox:

Had not heard of this program until this thread.  Here's a CNN article from late January of this year (2012) detailing the program a bit more and describing some of its issues:

http://www.cnn.com/2012/01/28/travel/tsa-vipr-passenger-train-searches/index.html

Another uncited piece with more story than detail from The Examiner.  But the story part is interesting (and troubling) nonetheless:

http://www.examiner.com/homeland-security-in-chicago/vipr-tsa-extends-policy-that-preys-on-the-innocent

Another CNN piece from a writer usually worth reading on transportation subjects:

http://www.cnn.com/2012/02/06/opinion/don-phillips-tsa-vipr-teams/index.html
