D & D FATCATS WITH GHOST PIPE

Has anyone out there got the D & D pipes installed with the ghost pipe and photos that they can post?  I've been told that the pipes produce a "tinny" sound, but the video clip on the D & D site sounds pretty good.

I appreciate the input.  Looks like some like the sound and some don't.  Any opinions on doing the D & D 2 into 1, K & N filter element, and SERT only?

Obviously we all don't like the same sounds. It's always interesting to hear one person say a certain pipe is loud, and another say it's quiet. I live near Ft. Worth where the D&D pipes are made and they are popular here, although the rear pipe where it curves by your right ankle can get very hot. I like the overall sound OK, especially at idle, but it can be very raspy and between shifts makes a knarly sound.  I just returned from a 1200 mile trip with a buddy that has a 01 SERG w/D&D and after we got back he indicated that he would like to find something that's not so loud for long trips. Supposedly they are coming out with a new baffle this summer that will accomodate the less noise crowd. Your idea of a D&D, SERT, and K&N should make some very good numbers and if it's too loud, the quiet baffle should be available soon.

My husband has the D&D Fat Cat pipes on his bike, and though it may be a bit quieter than mine - not a bad thing, as mine are too loud to me - lots of people complain about having to ride behind me (OH! Maybe that is not my pipes  ;D) because of the loudness, but I think they sound awesome, and certainly not tinny.

I noticed when you were moving your bike at Va H.O.G. rally that your pipes had an awesome sound. I had that same pipe on my Fatboy and loved it. Also got the same reaction from people not wanting to ride behind me, and  I gave them the option to speed up and ride in front if they could. ;D I even had the competition baffle in minds and it really rumbled. ;) It was a lot of fun setting of car alarms after I had the motor work done and increased the compression. :) You could stand ten feet behind the bike and it would blow your pants legs.

Sounds like what I imagine a bear sounds like, very big, deep growl.  

I just want to hit the kill switch and coast by the churches on Sundays.  I don't want to be disturbing folks when they are talkin to the man above. Cause I don't want them sayin bad things about me and my "LOUD" bike.  I find myself kicking it into the highest gear I can, turning my stereo way down low and I actually duck in my seat, as if I was shorter the bike would not be so obtrusive. haa haa haa!   ;D  ;D  ;D   ;D

I had a Fatcat on a previous bike:

That bike was a high compression(over 10.5-1), 95" motor with TW-6HG Woods cams that made over 100/100 TQ/HP.  A motor setup like that makes any pipe quite a bit louder, the high compression & early intake close make for a sharp bark to the exhaust note.

I have never heard a FC on a stock motor(like a Thunderheader they are the kind of setup that is usually associated with high performance), but on my setup the FC was VERY loud & that was with the standard baffle(the performance baffle is considerably louder).

I now ride a bagger with a similar motor & went with a Supertrapp Supermeg 2-1 exhaust which sounds & performs beautifully.  I can hear the stereo just fine at any speed & while it is pretty throaty on acceleration it is very quiet at cruising speeds(the FC was almost unbearably loud during all day cruising)

It seems that I saw something about installation, but I don't recall where.  I ordered pipes today and would like to know how involved the installation will be.  I recall someone mentioning that the installation instruction were not all that they could/should be.  Anyone got tips regarding installation?

LOL!!

They do go on really easy.  Do not remove the heat shields before install, they can stay on which is a real time saver. The only thing I had to do was open up (elongate) the hole for the ghost pipe where it mounts the the swing arm pivot bolt as it did not quite line up. Other than that the install was quick and clean. Be sure to wipe the pipe down with alcohol before starting it as any oils from your hands will be there permanently if you do not!

I appreciate the input.  I did decide to do the drop off at dealer and pick up later thing.  I may still talk to the tech with the advice regarding the heat shields and mounting hole on the ghost pipe.  Thanks!
