OK, so I'm checking out shocks in the Drag Specialties Fat Book and I come across Progressives.  In additon to the 940s they show a 944 FST Ultra Touring Shock (page 1162).  I check out Progressives website and find nothing so I call their tech support line.  The 944s will be available in about 60 days and will replace the 940s I learn.  This change allows them to bring production in house - so I guess the 940s are being made under contract somewhere else.  The 940s are steel body and the 944s are aluminum for whatever difference that makes.  :nixweiss:  The 940 uses their IAS - Inertia Active System while the 944s use the (newer??) FST - Frequency Sensing Technology.  So are the 944s an improvement or maybe just a way to bring in house and make cheaper?  Who knows?  Tech, of course, would not come right out and say if one is better than the other.

So just wondering if I do decide on Progressives should I go with the 940s or wait a couple months and see what the 944s are all about.   :nixweiss:

Glad you posted this, i was just about to order the 940's, think i will wait and check out the new 944's. :2vrolijk_21:

JC, I thought you went with air suspension on the new bike?

I did (it's TC, by the way  ;) ).  I put Legends on the RG, and had them on the '06 SEUC as well.  But, I had Bitubos on the '06 SEVROD, and only had to adjust for two settings:  one up, and two up.  Never a load.  The ride quality of the Bitubo's can't be beat, but they would be a bit of a PITA on a bagger, especially if your loads changed frequently.  Same with any "regular" shock.

That's why I just said the heck with it and my new Legends just arrived.  Gotta put 'em on and air it up.   :2vrolijk_21:

Problem solved.  While I don't think they are the BEST shock out there, compared to something like Bitubos, they are certainly the most convenient, and the most versatile.  The ability to instantly adjust for load, road conditions, riding style, etc., makes them worth the expense, IMO.  And they are a quality product.

Are you going to try and run the switch wiring internally?  Let me know how the project turns out...on my RG, they seem to be getting better with more miles on them.  Once you've had them, it's hard to go back to something else.

Earlier in this thread I mentioned a friend from Indiana who just got Legends to replace his Bitubos on his Ultra.  Not installed yet because his bike is still in storage at his dealer.  He said it was a major league pia to adjust the pre-load since he rode both solo and two-up and was constantly having to adjust.  That convinced me that I don't want to be pulling saddlebags off to adjust shocks.  Plus bsr really likes the ride of the Legends - it is better that stock for sure.  And yes it is nice to have that travel.  An added bonus - I had to adjust the drive belt tension on my '07 a while back.  Just let all the air out and the axle nuts were far enough above the mufflers that I could get my sockets on them to loosen, adjust and re-torque.  Easy as pie.

Just ordered the WO575 bars for my SE Ultra and when those are installed will be running the switch wiring internally as I did on my '07.  Looks so much better.   :2vrolijk_21:

Looks so much better.   :2vrolijk_21:

Agree 100%.  I am going to have a "bike service day" here soon, as I need to change the primary and crankcase oil, install the HID kit for the headlights, aim the headlights, and do a general detail on the bike.  I'm going to try and wire the switch interally then.  That ought to fill up a day or two...
