What batwing speaker adapters are you using?
« on: March 23, 2012, 12:54:46 PM »

I am looking at various adapters. The Hawg Wired looks like it funnels the sound better than others, but may be mounting depth issues.

Throttle Industries says theres are machined in the USA $39.99

http://www.throttleupindustries.com/speaker_rings.html

Here are the Hawg Wired $49.99

Any problems, concerns, opinions on any of these? I like the idea of the Hawg Wired.

I saw that on another post, that is an awesome deal!! That is cheaper than I have seen those speakers anywhere, and they came with the adapter rings.

MJB,

Is there a thread on your system? I did a quick search and didn't see it. What all did you end up doing?

No thread...I didn't take pics or do anything fancy so I didn't write it up.

Basically I used the Hybrid Audio Imagine (biketronics Titan II) speakers in the lowers and the Hybird Audio Unity components in the fairing (with the fairing adapters that came with the Imagine kit) and I gutted the factory tweeter housings and inserted the Unity tweeters in them for a stock look. I installed an Arc 125.2 in the fairing and re-locted the modules to below the radio. Rich (tif2) made me a harness so that the amp is plug and play since I did not want to cut the factory amp harness. It has input and output for the amp ready to connect without opening any factory wiring. All I needed to do was run new power and ground. I used the factory 5 1/2 speaker wires to drive the fairing crossovers and then added new wiring from the crossovers to the new speakers and tweeters. The lower speakers are hooked up to the factory connectors with pigtails that Rich made for me as well.

He is threatening to make me a plug and play harness for a new 4 channel amp so I can add saddlebag speakers over next winter......Hybrid Audio is working on waterproof speakers for the factory 2012 SESG saddlebag lids......

Very cool, sounds very similar to what I am going to do. I was going to do the bag speakers now also, but I am going to wait till the HAT speakers come out (helps break up the money as well). So how is the sound compaired to stock?

Hey Mike,Rich told me to ask you if you would do this set up again, also where did you buy all your speakers form? see the one set from Biketronics  how about the other set.Looking for a nice sounding system that is not to hard to install,I'm going to have Rich make me  a harness .

When I called Biketronics I spoke with the guy that Rich told me to ask for---I forgot his name--ask Rich....I asked for the exact set I wanted and he special ordered them from hybrid audio. It took a week longer, but it was the middle of winter so it didn't matter. Yes, I would do it again....it may not sound as good as Rich's does, but for the money and the ease of install it was well worth it. The Imagine series sound good and they are priced about the same as the competetors, and the Unity series component set in my dash are about $100 more, but I am very happy wiuth them. The speakers sound way better than typical mainstream bike setups that you hear about. I am still thinking about whether or not I want to do the saddlebag speakers next year...I can hear this setup loud and clear at 75mph so I am not sure how much more I need.

Get with Bill at Biketronics ... he can be hard to connect with but it's worth the wait to speak with him directly.

I clearly went over the top .... you can get GREAT sound out of the bike with the Unity/Imagine setup that Mike did. I have a call into HAT to see about a package that we can put together that would allow for a Unity fairing/Unity woofer lower install, or a Unity fairing/Imagine lower combo, with the new lid speakers - driven by a single RF-300/4 amp. They would need to develop the Unity line into a 2-ohm impedance.

It's a big "ask" and not sure they will go for it. I'll see if I can convince him  :)
I see a great market for a high-quality speaker, in 2-ohm, that could be used to upgrade a "standard" CVO (or Non-CVO) system while laying the foundation for building a high-output setup later. I'd supply the harness (till working on it) to allow the install on an SESG2/3.

I don't want to highjack this thread, but I'm getting frustrated with the 2012 CVOSG set up, and think I'll end up going this route, too.

I ordered a hogtunes rev7 woofer kit for the lower fairings, and found it won't work with the 2012 CVOSG because of the new amp and wiring (wish the reps would have told me this while I was ordering, instead of after I received it).   Still not sure why, but apparently the 12 CVOSG is incompatible with any other components.  It is the ONLY bike in the entire Harley line that is that way.  Why can't the hogtune woofers be wired into the system somehow?

TIF2, can I use a similar set up to the one being discussed here, with the HAT rear speakers you've talked about in another thread?  The way the tech at hogtunes sounded, I'll have to gut the entire system and start from scratch.

Good sound-deadening ear bud headphones may be replacing new speakers and amps on my to-do wishlist.

No ... it isn't. The SESG2 (2011) has the same setup as the SESG3 (2012). The only difference is the SESG2 has one-half (1/2) of the SESG3 system. H-D took the same junk amp in the SESG2 and put another one in (the saddle-bag) for the rear lid speakers of an SESG3. You can't just replace the existing speakers because the stock speakers are 1-ohm impedance, which is completely non-standard in the industry.

Well ... "gutting" is a very harsh term  :)

Yes .. you most certainly can.

You'll need to replace the front amp and the all of the speakers  in the "front stage" (fairing and lowers). You can leave the rear setup. It's a lot of work to upgrade the system for the rear lids, so I would suggest just leaving that system "as is". Doing a front stage upgrade on a 2012 SESG is well worth it - regardless of messing with the rear system. They can be attacked separately.

Hope this helps ...

Rich,'m going with the Rock ,any having no luck to hear any of the speakers   you mentioned. So what ever,is the easiest set up for lowers and fairing that sounds better than stock and a wiring harness you can make for me to make things easier to install, that is what I'll go with. Was great talking to you the other day.And I'm sure any set up you recommend will be great. Also where can I get the Hybird speakers and what is the going price if you know off the top of your head.I'm in no hurry since it is great riding right now Sometime in July or August when it is too hot to ride here,is my time frame. Thanks Tim

^^
Kinda figured that one :)
Lots of time to July/August.

I think you' be happy with either the JL Audio combo (C5/TR) or the HAT combo (Unity/Imagine).
For the JL set ... just look online but buy from an authorized dealer.
For the HAT set, contact Bill at Biketronics, tell him Rich sent you for the Unity fairing/Imagine lowers setup.
