07 CVO SUSPENSION
« on: July 21, 2006, 03:35:02 PM »

Just noticed on the HD website under specs that the regular Ultra has 5.1 inch ground clearance and the CVO Ultra has 6.0 inches of ground clearance. Do they have different suspensions? If not, then why more clearance on the CVO?

ace,

They show 0.9 inches more ground clearance, but the exact same lean angle (30°/32°) as the regular Ultra.  Does not compute!  It looks to me like there may be one or more "typos" in that spec sheet.  When you look through the rest of the features and specs, there is no indication of a change to the suspension.

Maybe they are just putting more air pressure in the tires for "07!!! That's the only way I know of to raise ground clearance other than to change suspension (other than to run taller tires- which they aren't)

This is even better - look at the seat height figures.

                                CVO Ultra       Prod Ultra
Seat Height:
    Laden:                    28.1 in.           27.3 in.
    Unladen:                 29.3 in.           30.7 in.
Ground Clearance:         6.0 in.             5.1 in.

The production Ultra sags 3.4 inches with a 180 lb. rider, while the CVO sags 1.2 inches.  Must be the "premium" air they use in the CVO shocks. ;)

Or maybe the stock Ultra  has a plush soft seat which squishes down more when you set on it and the CVO has a firmer seat which doesn't squish as much???
