Update: To any one interested, on September 12, 2012 the left ear received a cochlear implant to aid in hearing. There has been two sessions with an audiologist to get the global frequency map to aid the recipient in hearing. This technology is intriguing, but is not as good as riding my Harley. Oh! The balance is coming back as well. :apple: :jalapeno: :cucumber: :pineapple: :pepper: :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21:

great news ;D

My prayers for your continued successes!  I hope they can restore enough of your hearing that you can enjoy life.  God be with you and your family.

dlaws01,
Thank you for your prayers. The hearing had been restored to the left ear that went south in 1996. I can hear well, but tonal quality needs to be improved. That ear had a loss of 92%, now is come back to approximately 8% loss. And God be with you and your family.

Glad to hear you are doing better!

Robmay,
Thank you, It will take time to have tonal quality for hearing. I think this is a new technology for them. I'm using past audio and signal conditioning experience to aid them.

New updated;
October 29 will be round three with the Audiologist to get the Global Frequency map adjusted for optimal tonal quality and speech understanding.
Then...... I get to see the surgeon that did the implant, I think the darn thing moved under my skin while sleeping.  The receiver is a magnetic coupling device with a rf link that receives its' power and audio information from the outside DSP( a microcomputer with algorithms that controls everything). i don't think this will be my last session for a while. There will be more sessions.

For the Tech buffs;
The DSP will control and give the exciting energy to 7 electrodes in the Cochlea in 7 known frequency sections of the Cochlea.
The Frequency range of the DSP, I've been told, is 150 Hz to 8.5 Khz. I think I have heard a Higher piercing tone,  10 Khz???? maybe?
The input source is a controlled microphone in the forward part of the ear ornament. So is the driving amplifier to give loudness or softness to the hearing. This is done with a smart remote.

As I learn more, I will pass it on.   :coolblue:

hogasm,
Yes, this is fantastic for the left ear, which hasn't worked since 1996.
On the question of 2 wheels, it was recommended to check balance issues that come with Meniere's Disease. I think since 1996, I have been compensating for the lost of the left ear. I've tested the balance in the garage with the CVO running. I think it is manageable. The surgeon thinks I can get a handle on the balance. This was before the Sept. 12th surgery.
Great to "hear" from you.  :drink:  :drink:  :2vrolijk_21:
