Another shield question - recurve
« on: April 07, 2012, 12:02:21 PM »

Hi all;

I have read every thread on the various shields and wind buffeting that I can possibly find on this and other forums.  I ride a 12 SESG which of course I love. I came off of a SERG which just didn't have the wind and buffeting issues that I and other have found. I am still on stock seat, but a Corbin Solo is on its way and I put on a 8" LRS Ultra shield with recurve. BTW, I used Clearview on my RG with great results.  The LRS is very nice w good optics and quality.  First issue is that I barley see over it. I am 5'9" w a 30" inseam.  Anyways, at 65mph the wind is so severe that my helmet is raising. Now, I think that is the wind coming straight on, but I guess it could be coming from underneath as well.  I have ordered the fork baffle and the adjustable fairing wings, thanks very much.  So to the question, I think that the other players for shields would be; Klock, Freedom, Windvest, Clearview, LRS.  All seem very good and lots of good reviews.  Most of these have recurve.  But which has the best(?) recurve.  In other words, I want a shorter shield but one that has the right angle for the shield and recurve to push the air over my head.  Make sense?

On my 12 SECU7 I first tried the 10" HD wind splitter with the curve and extended sides but I still had the wind buffeting coming mostly from below, I think.
Now just changed to the 11"(I'm tall) Freedom shield, lightly tinted, and my wind/buffeting problem is totally solved. Very happy with it and quality of optics is 100%, you can see through it just like it's not there. I dont know about the others though.

I'd wait until you get the Corbin before ordering another windshield, as your seated position may be slightly different.

I had good results on my SEUC with the Clearview w/recurve.  But, I wear a FF (flip up style) helmet, which does make a difference.

I just put on a Corbin Solo seat, and it seems to have raised the riding position a bit.  Plus, with the backrest, I'm sitting a little bit more forward and upright.  You might want to wait on the windshield.  If you do end up getting a new windshield, I would recommend Freedom Shields.  Excellent quality, function, and service, with good prices.

The fork baffle and fairing deflectors make a huge difference.  Good luck!   :2vrolijk_21:

I replaced the stock windshield on my SESG3 with the 11" HD Wind Splitter.  I'm 6'4" and this windshield works great!!  I like the looks and the functionality of it.  IMO this is a great windshield.  And to top it off, got it for 18% off and free shipping from Kutter HD.
