new 117ci
« on: April 07, 2012, 11:15:03 PM »

Finally got to ride my 117 build.Went by the shop to drop off the registration so they could road test and the owner says take it for a ride, so........ off I went. One hour later I was back with a big smile on. Went easy with it,didnt want to fk it up, its so smooth and the power band is so seamless.Cant wait for them to change the oil and retune so I can do some riding.Been a long winter for me.Had a knee replacement and sent the ride in for the engine build. Stress level has been high. But after the little taste today Im good, for a day or two.

Enjoy your new 117, I'm sure you are aware you have a few jealous CVO brothers nearby.  It appears you had some physical repairs in anticipating hanging on to the new beast.  Have you had the pleasure of talking to senior yet or have all your dealings been with Marc and Reggie Jr.?  Seriously I would enjoy lining up with you for a few passes when shes broken in, since I'm a sore loser I would expect to have my butt kicked and have a more suitable mount built over the winter to give a better showing.  Sometime this summer maybe we can get Big C. to join in.  We live close enough to make it happen.

Stay in touch.

117"ers are/can be a very versatile powerplant, from tame, touring applications, to true pavement-shedders.
Easy to get those to pop 130-135 ft/lbs.
Setting up an S&S-emmisions 117" now, for a St. Louis, Mo. client, that was in his Big Dog.
He said is was neutered the way it was.
He won't have that opinion any longer.............. :D
Had a T/C in a bagger, that was tuned at a shop in PA, that pushed off 141/144. :)

Scott not sure of any numbers yet.Anxiously waiting to pick it up on thurs.Dont think its going to be really hot because I only did a stage two on the heads and still runnung the V&H power duals with stock mufflers and fullsac 2" which is definitely holding it back. But ok for now, we will see if it needs more later.

So what does it take to do a 117? Major or minor work?

I guess it depends on what you consider major....  Going to a 4.125 bore will get you there.

Cases need to be bored to accept the larger cylinder spigots, Timken bearing conversion at that point.
Crank needs to be balanced for the heavier pistons, and welded as well.
Existing cylinder heads need attention, 58 t/body, cams for the riding style/needs, and a good exhaust.
That said, a 117"er is born.
On the flip side of this, approx $300.00 additional dollars, when doing so, will bring a 124"er into the picture. :)
