Mid Frame Air Deflectors
« on: April 09, 2012, 01:02:49 PM »

I'm thinking of pulling these off of my SERGU...it seems they hold heat around the rear head, particularly when stopped, and when moving, they seem to direct the heat out towards your inner thigh.

Plus, I'm not a fan of how they look on the bike...but if they serve a real purpose, it could be a function over form decision.

Opinions/comments?   :nixweiss:

Painted mine to match,........then put chrome trim around edges.
I beleave it looks cooler with this mod than it's actual function.
So I fall somewhere in the middle.

Your poll is missing one option. I added them and feel they direct some heat away from the rider, but really have no clue what they do to the temp of the bike.

My vote is they keep some heat off the riders legs.

On/OFF/On/OFF. Finally left them OFF.

Who knows they might go back on. They seemed to add some heat to my right thigh and my wife's right foot.

I don't know. These 110's are just HOT.

Took mine off as well as the fairing lowers, all is well for summer. Engine area looks better without the deflectors. Bought the quick disconnect kit for the lowers so I can put'em back on in the winter.

HEAT, I DON'T HAVE NO STINKING HEAT !!!!!!

How about an option like

neither are cooler for engine or rider,
but does move heat lower down the legs.

so heat is now around my calf instead of my inner thigh and crotch.

^ What he said. I added them to my 02 Ultra to try to get some off the heat off my thighs. It did work.

i tried those on my 04 thinking that it would help with heat.  It didn't at all..  I think it kept it in there and wouldn't let it escape..   So off they went.  They lasted about 2 weeks. 75.00 min the trash can.   I would't even  think about trying them on my '12.  :o

Took mine off 3 weeks ago and haven't been in a high heat situation since. On the road seems to be a little cooler but can't be sure until stop and go situation or hot day. Guess if you're sitting on a stove it will be hot regardless.

I did this with my deflectors for more than one reason. Not only for heat but also to mount the headset connection and hide the spark plug wires from underneath.

I'm really happy since I put them on, because I drive a lot in traffic jam and I can really feel less heat on my "precious parts" of my body!  :D
It's true that it is not the most beautiful thing on the bike, but I have had red led light behind them and at night it looks really good! ;)

Didn't much like the look of the stock ones but enjoy less heat there so "Carbon Fibre" dipped mine
