Anyone using Dyna Beads?
« on: April 15, 2012, 10:58:29 AM »

I was at WhiteHorse MV Warehouse in Conay, NH yesterday. They claim they have sold over 5,000 DynaBead Kits.

I had a set installed in my last new tires, no more nasty/ugly weights that can fly off and ding the merchandise!

Have them in the Road Glide's wheels right now Dennis.  Had been hesitant to use them but finally decided last fall to give them a test ride.  On that bike since their installation I've never felt a thing that would let me know anything different is going on.  Works fine so far.  I'd not be hesitant to use them again on the SEEG or the SERG.

Having said that I've still got reservation and don't plan to use them on the Road King.  I'm not comfortable with the floating beads running around all time on the tubeless spoked wheels' inner sealing band.

There are plenty of threads and posts on the subject of Dyna Beads on the site - try the search feature.  All I'll say on the subject is don't believe everything some folks trying to sell stuff tell you.

The only retort I've got Jerry is that I am minus the weights now and the wheels are balanced, I was skeptical too until I saw it myself before we installed them back on the bike, I would agree with Twolane though... there is no way I would have them on a spoked wheel.

Why? When the bike is not moving the beads will be at the lowest point in the tire, once moving they will be spread out along the inner "street side" of the tire, away from the spoke sealing bead.

Think there is a chance of them getting under the bead?

I have the "Equal" system in my trailer tires. Similar to Dyna beads. Couldn't tell you for sure if they really balanced the tire, but I see nothing n the mirrors to suggest otherwise, and my wife who rides in the traielr occasionally never noticed anything. The trailer tire-wheel combo weigh 96 pounds each.

It is a bit pricey when doing many wheels, but I plan on adding it to the bike and all six of the trucks wheels.

I installed front and rear tire on my SERK4 last May and I am running dynabeads in them (first time), I rode round trip from VA to Laconia NH, VA to Sturgis and a number of semi-local runs that add up to over 11k miles currently.  I ride hard in turns and fast in straights and maintain tire pressures weekly, my last set of tires were both worn out at 8k miles and were balanced traditionally with lead weights.  The last rear and current rear was/is a Dunlop 408, the current rear tire looks like it will be good for another 2K - 3K.  The only change that I can attribute to the higher mileage wear was going to dynabeads.  The front tire is not fair to compare because the original tire was the (problematic) 407F which was replaced with the refined 408F.  Currently the front looks like it will last another 4K - 5K.

I have not experienced any un-balanced conditions and the tires have very even wear.  I change my tires myself on a Coates 220 and found adding the beads easiest by poring them past the tire bead and rim before pressurizing the tire an seating the bead.

Wish you the best which ever way you go.

Why?

Very good reason.  Undefined concern.

Have you changed a tire yet since adding the beads? Since you can do them yourself it adds a different perspective.
Curious as to how much labor it adds if any and do tire installers have an issue with it.

Once.  Wasn't a big deal.  The beads all collected against the sidewall which was down.  Gravity is your friend here.  Did pay attention and be careful when lifting the tire up and away from wheel to make sure a mess wasn't made.  Not sure that would have happened the same way if I'd not known the beads were in there.  But the foreknowledge made it a non-issue.

On the fence about this myself, now leaning a little more towards it. I too am curious what happens at tire change. I know they can be salvaged, but is it going to just piss off the guy mounting and unmounting them? If they just spill all out, then you gotta buy another bottle. Off topic, thinking of rhino tire. Have a spare ready to go and they're not too far from here

When it's time to change my present set on my SERK, I am going to try them out.

Once again foreknowledge is going to be the big thing there.  Let the tire guy know they're in there.  If he does and then pays attention there's no particular reason a spill would have to happen nor that they couldn't be used again.

I tried them on front and rear of my new Dunlops and front would shaked bad starting at 60.Added more beads and still no help...went up to 4 ozs and no change.Broke down tire and vacuumed beads out .Had it computer balanced and took 3.5 ozs which is worse tire I ever had but now its smooth.Usually doesnt take any weights. My conclusion is they dont work period!! I plan on taking them out of rear tire also and have it balanced.

There have been a few cases of users reporting they couldn't use them.  Satisfactory use isn't universal.  Don't have a clue why.  The instance of reported problem have been very few to the instances of reported satisfactory use.  But the problem reports do exist.

I had a chance to play with a computer balancer with a tire and wheel with dyna beads in it a couple years ago.  The balancer went nuts with that tire and wheel.  More than anything that's what kept me wary of using them.  Last fall having a set in hand at the same time curiosity overcame concern got me to try them.  Fortunately my in-use experience is with the majority that have seen them work ok.  But it's not an absolute.
