110 Life??
« on: April 19, 2012, 12:13:59 PM »

Any idea on total milage life of a 110?  How many miles do you long distance riders have on your stock/ slightly modified (Stage 1/2) Engines?

Imho, with proper maintenance, and not beating the crap out of it, a solid 50,000+ or way more is not unreasonable. Although I've seen some 88's that were barely broken in at 50K, the 110's run quite a bit hotter, which does work to their disadvantage.  I've got a warmed over 103 at ~31K, and it's purring like a kitten. However, I plan on doing a rebuild over the winter at ~50,000, if I still have it.  If I had the 110, I'd plan the same.

I suspose if they get the proper care and feeding and looks like that is fresh lifters every so often. Assuming the original motor is a good print to begin with and changes are not made to alter the reliability

Of course, those 49K+ miles included a motor rebuild due to a dropped/stuck valve along the way...  Just saying... ::)

Mine made to 5500. May have made a mistake taking a chance with the 110. Good thing i kept the 103 seeg. It runs really great at 67000 miles.

Mine made it to 18,000 before a complete upper end rebuild. Bored .010 over to cure piston slap, valve job to repair valves not seating properly, and new lifters and adjustable push Rods to take care of lifters that would not hold a prime when cold. Sure hope the next 18,000 work out better. But I still have near 5 years of warranty to use.

I too have the ESP which I now consider nearly worthless as it will be a cold day in hell before another H-D dealership mechanic touches my ride.

Are you saying that only bad mechanics work for dealerships? I have two very good mechanics at the dealership that I use in Denver. And their service manager is tops in my book. I am an auto tech by trade with over 50 years of working in the auto industry, and have found there are just as many incompetent mechanics in the independent shops. But that is JMO. I guess all bad doctors only work at the hospital? All good doctors have a private practice?

Traded in my 07 flstcuse with 49k. Had new jugs, pistons, valve job, and cranks replaced at 29 k due to tuner who blew her up and she still ran good after rebuild.

35.000 now on a modestly modified late 09 FLHTCUSE4. Had the engine disassembled before the end of warranty, only the (SE) compensator showed some wear and was replaced under warranty. So far no reason why the engine should not go over 100.000 m  ;)
