New "Unibrow" windshield trim for the RGU
« on: April 21, 2012, 06:34:48 AM »

I installed a 12" Klockwers shield on the bike yesterday and am not real happy with the fit and finish. I knew this going in but I had seen an RG with the chrome trim piece on it that looked pretty good.

Bike is Slate, black with a light tint shield. Question now is,,,,go with the HD Chrome one, HD black one or the Kury chrome one?

Thoughts, opinions? I know, I know....It's my bike, do what I like and the hell with others.

Need to be able to add more than one pix at a time >:( Just reduce the size of the image allowed so it doesn't clog the threads and load slow.

HD black is my vote

BTW I had perfect fit and easy install for the Clearview shield I put on mine last year.

I don't have a trim piece on it but I was considering one

Hold that thought. I tried like hell to fit one on mine. The SE windshield is different and it can be installed but you'll have to fight the hell out of it and possible scratch your paint. HD is aware of the issue and is looking into it according to the parts guy at my local dealer.

Putting the trim piece onto the original SE screen or onto a non-HD one (eg, Clearview) ?

My original screen, I suppose it's around here somewhere...it wasn't too bad but after how awesome the Clearviews are, I don't think I'd ever swap back.  And the way it's tinted, the trim piece would not do much for looks in my case.  So my idea came and went.

Would be interested to know the difference between SE/non-SE screens.

I went with chrome H-D trim on my 2009 SERG with a Clearview shield.
Clearview has a kit that has longer screws if you plan to put trim on. It is needed because the Clearview shield is thicker than stock.
I had my dealer install the shield and trim at the same time and he said no problem to install. I have noticed a slight gap at the ends of the trim due to thicker shield.

OBB, I went with the HD chrome with a 12" Klockwerks windshield.  Fit and finish very good on both.  Only problem I have is due to all the curves in the Klockwerks windshield, it gets some distortion and color reflection.  Fortunately, I'm looking over the shield so it doesn't bother me.  Ride safe!

Same setup I have on mine. For the life of me, I couldn't get that damn chrome trim to fit. If you look on HD's site under parts, it says right on there that it won't fit the SERGU. How in the heck did you get that thing on there?

OBB, I had the dealer install it before I took delivery of the bike.  They didn't even charge me.  Guess I had spent enough!  After watching the mechanic install it, I tipped him a "Jackson" and felt like I made the right choice!  Wish I had more advice but I don't on this one.  However, it does fit very well on mine!  Good Luck!

I have the Black/grey '11 SERGU. I installed a Klockwerks 12" and was incredibly disappointed with the fit at the ends of the windshield. I bought the HD chrome cover. a 1/2 hour job took 3! What a PITA to get the screw holes to line up. They do provide two "cam studs" and 2 normal studs. Why not all cams studs? No idea but I was a "cam stud" away from going back to the dealer and "borrowing" 2 more "can studs" from one on the rack!

I have the same bike with the black trim and looks good. just need to make the holes where the screws go threw abit bigger. I had a tech from Juneau av hd help put it on and he couldn't believe how hard it was to put on.
