I've never had to do any of my own, but I've done an 01 SERG, an 04 Electra Glide, and 05 SEEG.  Getting them out is always tougher than putting them back in.  But having an understanding of how the "hinge" works takes some of the pain away...   

funny thing is it slid right out no problem. didn't have trouble till reassembly

Neal, i just posted a topic as I was getting ready to do my first filter on a friends Road King.  Did you drain the tank?  That's a scary looking contraption for sure.  Did you replace the internal plastic line?

i used a siphon to drain it. and did both internal lines.

I'd love to know what the dealer charges for the filter change.
