its time to do mine.. well way past time.. the dealers almost never work on the filter and hose because its a high milage repair that few folks ever do. the dealer wants quite a bit of cash to do this.. now i just have to figure out how to get all the gas out of the tank.......

Bike not running well enough to just use up the tank?  If not you could score an old used fuel line on eBay, cut off the manifold enough, and use what pump pressure you have to pump it out in to a gas can.  Alternatively go ahead and open up the tank, take out the guts, stick in a long piece of fuel line (just the cheap stuff, not EFI) acquired from the parts store and suck.  Let it siphon.  Or go to Harbor Freight and get one of those cheap hand squeeze pumps do it that way.  Or one of those cheap pumps that run off a drill motor.  Or get the wife/GF to s....

Well, never mind, just know you've got options  :2vrolijk_21: .

This is a really old thread but any question can become new again.  Short answer is not really.  It's a bit of a tedious chore that is easier understood when seen then explained.  So watch a youtube video if only to see the orientation things take to more easily get the assembly out of the tank and how the hinge (inside) works.

The screws that hold the cover to the tank should be one time use, so get a set of 10 along with the other parts.  Replace all the lines inside the tank.  The only "special" tool would be something to crimp the oetiker clamps used on those lines inside the tank.  Any good pair of wire cutters will cut them.  To crimp them using wire cutters, however, can be iffy just because you're not pulling flat.  It's do-able but it takes a "touch."  Better would be to buy a cheap set of end nippers.  Some of those are two sided also.  They will cut and crimp on their end and on their side (90 degrees off).  Might be worth paying a couple bucks extra for that as the oil lines between the engine and transmission use the same clamps and the "side" crimp can come in handy there.
