Don’t get the soup!     Seriously……I believe the hair in my soup was from my head.  The meals were good.

Straight out of a western…….

The light, bright green are the aspens that turn gold, yellow, red in the fall.  The dark green are evergreens.

This, folks, is the Rio Grande Resavoir.  It’s the headwaters of the Rio Grande River….

The Rio Grande Ranch….

Our next stop….a great little town that’s back in off the beaten path, Creede, Colo.

We had the Creede Hotel to ourselves.  A great, historic hotel that a number of famous people have stayed in.  Terrie and I had the Calamity Jane room…..

And it had the balcony attached and a restroom (not down the hall)…..

Views from the balcony were ring side…..

There were also rooms like Poker Alice, Soapy Smith and Bat Masterson.

The dining room downstairs was very nice.  We had dinner and breakfast there….

Several movies have been made in the area, several other movies made about this area.  Currently, Johnny Dep is filming Tonto and The Lone Ranger….a Disney Studios film.

Outside seating in the summer months….

We stayed in several of Colorado’s Historic Hotels as described in the book by the same name…

I made a new little friend while I was in town.  She’s the hostess in the town theatre….

Andy, Don and I walked off up the canyon to do the underground mine tour.  It’s a guy thing so the women found something else to do…..

You can see the large tent on the right, up the canyon.  It’s the wardrobe, dressing and make up tent for the move set.  The underground mine tour is across the street, on the left side.

The fire dept. is also in one of the old mines….

The road is blocked off for the movie set.  If you look closely you’ll see an old steam locomotive at the back of the canyon, in the middle of the street.  We were told that was trucked in last week on a flat bed for the movie.  Supposedly they dug a fake mine and in the movie they’re going to blow it up.

Even though it was hot outside, it was cold in that mine.  They have a rack of loaner coats for men, women and children….

Our tour guide was an ol’ guy that had worked in those mines all of his life….now on oxygen and had to drag that little tank with him everywhere.

Some of the past residents of Creede….

You should have saw the look on the little ol’ lady’s face behind the counter when Andy put his loaner coat on, reaches in his pocket and pulls out ten $100 bills and claims “look what I just found in this coat pocket”.   I told Andy, she’ll be checking all those coat pockets from now on, after each visitor leaves.

The cougars grow to a good size out west.  Don posted a pic of the one in Nev. and this one is from the Creede area….

Ever wonder how much air pressure is in your air shocks?  This bike was parked in the “Extra’s parking” lot….

The prize from previous years of the Colorado State Mining Championships….

Wardrobe and make up tent…..

Red prefers the cool of the concrete sidewalk…..

To the comfort of his bed under that hot jeep….

And at dinner…..Andy told the waitress that we’re having dinner with Johnny Dep’s brother, Donnie Dep.  Then turned to Don and said “this is Donnie Dep”.  You should have saw the look on her face.

By the way, this town has more Jeeps than I’ve ever saw in one place before.  As we were walking the streets I think we counted about 20 of them before we quit counting….they were everywhere!

Old folks home….naw, everybody on the net….

Sunrise in Creede, Colorado.  Time to hit the road….headed for Pagosa Springs, Durango, Silverton and Ouray….

JC, I thought I had seen beautiful country until I just looked at the last picture's you posted.  This is surely where God would live if he were picking a place to stay.  The beauty just takes my breath away.  I will get there someday...I will make that my promise in this lifetime.  Thank you so much for taking all of us places in your picture's that we have never been.   :dankk2:

Thanks a bunch Ron.   See you two up in Burney in about ten days.

My intent is to take everybody along and provide a little information along the way, for those who may be planning on visiting any of these areas in the near future. :2vrolijk_21:

More shots of the Rio Grande River.  It actually looks like a river down here.  Up at the headwaters it wasn’t much more than a creek.

An “S” curve tunnel…..
