Deeley Strikes Again!
« on: May 26, 2012, 09:55:51 AM »

For all the Canadians who have American VIN'd bikes...

As you know, if you buy a used bike here in Canada that originally was sold in the US Deeley hits you with a $1000 inspection fee to "assess" the bike to see if it qualifies for any warranty work... and of course that doesn't ensure that the warranty will be honoured after inspection.

I heard from a buddy yesterday who is Canadian and bought his bike up here that was originally sold in the US, he lives in Arizona half the year so not having the warranty stuff done here was not an issue, he'd just get it serviced down there.

American VIN, serviced by American dealer.

After the last service he received a call from the US dealer, seems Deeley has suspended his VIN from being honoured in the US for any warranty work... WTF????

He has started the process to see how this is possible, and now is intent on suing.

He just sent off a question to the Department of Justice to see if they can define the Competition Act better and suggest a route to take.

This was all done without telling him what the requirements are or receiving any notification from Deeley at all.  He has also learned that the information they are receiving about vehicles coming into the country is being supplied ILLEGALLY by a member or RIV  (registrar of imported vehicles)

Of course it's going to be hard to prove, when he took his bike in for service in AZ, the 1HD vin was associated with his US address in AZ.  The only Canadian thing about the bike was the Ont plate.  Somehow, in short order, Deeley knew the bike was now owned by a Canadian.

I wonder what system they use to verify VIN's and reg's etc.?

So, if they know who he is, why hasn't he received a letter welcoming him into the HD fold and advising that he has to submit his vehicle to a $1,000 nonrefundable fine,  ...er,... inspection fee?

The practice royally sucks.  But it's not uncommon.  The overall handling of the question is also entirely without standards.  It appears to be left up to individual manufacturers as a policy choice rather than being something that's covered by Federal rules or treaty in either country.

At a glance:

       Please see Honda

Audi

The US warranty will be honored in Canada for all Audi vehicles
