« on: June 07, 2012, 08:19:11 AM »

Well I guess the now massed produced CVO do not hold there value like they used to.tried to trade mine in for a 2012 cvo street glide yesterday, wanted my bike which has $3grand in the good extras pipe, tts, dyno time and others,Wanted me to pay $12,000 difference So I would say that is giving me $20,000 for my 2011 cvo street glide.I remember why I don't trade things in.lol And yes they are mass producing these bikes now.I know of 12 right here in a 30 mile radius the same color Citrus.Guess this one will be a keeper.

Sounds like the dealership you were working with figured to make the month's rent off you all by yourself.  I'm seeing the same sort of stick it to the customer attitudes displayed for parts and accessories around here, with stuff actually marked up over the published catalog MSRP.  Thank Mother Harley for running off so many dealers; the remaining ones have less competition and they plan to take full advantage of that fact.  If the economy ever actually recovers, I expect to see a return to the glory days of the 90's with shortages (Harley chit canned much of their production capacity), waiting lists, and huge markups over MSRP.  Yes, those were the glory days for a lot of greedy dealers.  Hang on to that 2011 and maybe the resale value will also improve like it did in the 90's.

btw, CVO's haven't been truly unique for awhile now.  All they are is a high end option package, like when you go to your Ford dealer and buy the Limited instead of the SEL.  It's a big profit maker for the manufacturer and dealer, but it no longer has the cachet it had originally.  That hasn't got anything to do with whether or not it was bolted together in a converted hallway by a couple guys, or it got bolted together on the real assembly line.  It's all about volume.

Kenny owning a 04 Punkin and a newer CVO Ultra. I like riding the Ultra a lot but I LOVE riding "OLE PUNKIN"!!!! Yes the new Ultra has a lot of nice new items on it and the frame design makes the ride nice, but that old 2004 with all I have done to her is still THE CHIT!!!!!

I have a very good friend of mine I have ridden with for over 30 years. When I met him he had a NEW 71 FLH!!!! Guess what, he still has it and just keeps rebuilding it and fixing the things that break and he still LOVES THAT BIKE!!!! We did a little riding last summer and I asked him when he was going to upgrade and get a new bike. His reply was "Hell I haven't worn this one out yet"

Trahog you should give Norhshore Harley a call in Slidell Louisiana.  I inquired about trading in my 2011 Ultra for a '12 SG and they said they add a premium for anything CVO.  You might get a better deal at another dealer.

Sledge

Ps. someone on here traded their 11 Ultra for a 12 SG and had to upchuck about 4k, a lot less than the diff you were being told but they were trading an Ultra.  Sounds like the dealer was trying to take advantage in your case.

For nothing more than another point of reference, I traded my 2009 SERG with 29k miles on a new 2011 SESG in September of 2011 for $12k difference out the door.  They basically gave me Kelly Blue Book trade in value and didn't mark up the new bike over MSRP.

When looking for a 2009 Black & Orange SERG in my area, everyone wanted 29,500 for their used one with on the average of having 20,000 + miles. spent another 1000, and bought a new one.

Most dealers I have talked to including my local HD dealer don't give you anything for the extras on the bike. My local gives Kelley BB trade in on the bike ($27,100 for my 11 FLHXSE2) and with the CVO they stick to MSRP but not more. Close to fair I guess.

Always sell out right if you can! Unless you got a lemon or a problem! Let the dealer deal with the next owner! And when buying used, ALWAYS get at least 2 years extended warranty if none is left. Believe me I know!! Thank God I did that last time! All is good now! Love my  :pumpkin:

My local dealer quoted me $24,500 trade in on my 11.5 ultra with 2,000 miles. They had a 10 ultra for sale with 10,000 miles, and they had the sticker at 34,500.

I liked the roadglide custom when I saw it but it quickly lost it's appeal at those numbers.

Guess the moral to the story is: you won't get a good deal trading it in.  24k plus change is ridiculous.  Sell to an individual for sure.  I have never bought, traded or sold to a dealer, always 3rd party, always a good deal.  So far anyway.
