660 sync to GPS using "Plan Your Ride" on the HOG web site
« on: June 11, 2012, 05:12:52 PM »

Has anyone used the "synchronize to GPS" feature on the "Plan Your Ride" route planning application that is on the HOG web site.

I planned my route and synchronized to my 660 zumo, all seemed good.  Then I disconnet my my 660 from my computer and the 660 say that new data has been loaded and asks whether to add the custom routes or not....I say yes and it calculates up to 99% and freezes.  I reboot the 660 and the route is there.

The pain is that I can only due one at a time.

Anyone else having this problem?

Frustrating program, but it works well in conjunction with MADMAPS for detail routing.

Your correct. It does take some finesse. I still have it through in a random waypoint on a slightly off road ever now and then.  It is still a useful tool and it certainly opened up the roads that I have ridden lately.

gotta really zoom in and make sure your 'way points' are center of the road or you will find your self doing the loopty loop with the group! :nixweiss:

One of the idiosyncracies of the Ride Planner is that if you create several "Add Location" points, it creates several separate routes. i.e. Location 1 to Location 2 is a route, 2-3, 3-4, etc.

I use the Manual export and then use an XML editor to edit the gpx file and consolidate the routes into one. Also, I remove unneeded waypoints. After repairing the gpx file I copy it to the Garmin folder on the GPS. (If you are familiar with XML, it will be obvious which tags to move and which to delete.)

You can export several routes manually and copy them to the GPS. On startup the GPS will find all of them and ask if you want to import them.
