110 Noise
« on: June 12, 2012, 07:52:11 AM »

On an occasion from a cold start the stator make a lot of noise. After a few miles the noise is gone. Only does it about once every 10 times. Go plenty of oil and I'm using RedLine. 13,000 miles on the bike.

Not likely it's stator noise...possibly compensator noise?   :nixweiss:

Why would this happen only once in a while?

I can't tell you why it isn't constant. I can tell you that I changed the Compensator on two bikes and the difference was dramatic. I should note that the change was to the new SE Compensator as used on the 2011 bikes and later.

From what I've been reading, the compensator and chain tensioner are two issues to be dealt with. I believe the chain tensioner is responsible for at least half the problems arrising. It simply over tightens the chain putting stress on everything including the compensator, clutch bearings, seals.
I'd change it out to an M6 tensioner, and double check the compensator for proper torque and spring load, the belleville washers seem to loose their tension.
As suggested the SE version seems to solve the problem for most. FWIW  twinotter  :)

He already has the latest SE version guys, it is standard in his 2012 CVO.

Muddy, exactly what kind of noise are we talking about?  Ticking, squealing, chirping, what exactly?  There have been three common areas of concern with the primary in the late model bikes, the chain tensioner, the compensator (even the latest SE versions), and the inner primary bearing.  All of them can create noises that occur randomly.  Your dealer should be able to pull the primary cover and check all three at the same time.
