 At 46,000 miles, My front suspension needs rebuilt. I want to set the bike up for long days in the saddle. Is there better components to put in the front end to make it more comfortable. Also, What rear shocks would be best to compliment the front end ? I hope the moderators leave this post in the SEEG section so I get answers that pertain to this specific model. Any suggestions that include part numbers would be great too. Anybody else done this with similar goals ? What's working for you ?

supension is like seats everyones alittle different. for me I had 5k on mine when it went to Traxxion for a suspension upgrade. As a distance rider the AK-20's up front and the bitubo on the rear work for me. they take alittle getting use to for fine tuning for the load and riding enviroment. but nothing that take more than a couple of seconds to change at a gas stop. the BSR is much happer now on trips and I tend to stiffen it up for me when i play in the twistys.

I had an 04 SEEG that I sold in late 09.  At the time that I sold it, it had 65k miles on it and had been from the Atlantic ocean to the Pacific ocean, up in Canada and down in Mexico.....might qualify as a real touring set up.

I was totally happy with the stock front end however, at 220 lbs. I changed the shocks to Progressive 440 HD (heavy duty).  I was very happy with that set up for 65k miles.

Others that have run the various front ends tell me that I don't know what I'm missing.  Just wasn't an issue for me to the point where I wanted to spend $$ on it.

Progressive Monotubes in the front made a BIG difference......soon to be done to the new FLHXSE3!

Ohlin 6's in the rear and the HD cartridges in the front. Ride is amazing and the Ohlins are arguably the best rear shocks on the planet for a Touring HD but they are certainly not cheap...

Last November I put Progressive Monotubes (Lowered) and Progressive Ultra 940 Touring Series Shocks in my  and it's night and day difference and has made the ride 1000X better IMO.

dood, I like the sound of your set-up. Is the part number for the monotubes you used 31-2501 ? The best price I've found is $295. Did you find them any cheaper, If so where did you buy yours ? I may do this one step at a time. The front end definately needs repaired. I'll wait til later to do the shocks.

Minimum:  Progressive Monotubes up front.  Several choices for shocks: Progressive, Bitubo, Works, Suspension Technology.

Do both ends, if there's any way to afford to do so.  With 46K on your bike, your suspension was worn out 20K ago.

I have yet to hear a single solitary person say that they felt like they wasted money on upgrading HD stock suspension, even when the bike is brand spanking new.  100% say it is about the best money they have ever spent on their bike.  It is like riding a completely different motorcycle.  That is how BAD the stock suspension is.

But, most people do not know what they are missing, and ignorance is bliss.

Yes, 31-2501 are the lowered ones. I had my indy order and install them... I also installed new motor mounts, new swing arm bushings, and a Tru-Trak when the Progressive upgrades were done. If you are still riding on your stock swing arm bushings & motor mounts you may want to consider doing them also the combination of all those parts have my bike riding better then it ever did before.

Yep, no difference I've noticed. I didn't measure before/after but doesn't feel like I'm lifting my ole crippled/artificial leg any higher than before.

Yep still riding... not complaining that was said "matter of factly" just to verify I hadn't felt any difference. I'll take any day waking up w/aches & pains over not waking up at all.

Did you go with stock swing arm bushings and motor mounts ? I have never felt any wobble with my bike , even when pulling a trailer. Did you have wobbles and feel the need for the true track or you were fixing some other problem ?

I had my indy purchase and install them so more than likely they were aftermarket and I had purchased the Tru-Track several years ago when there was a group buy on the site. Since I was upgrading the suspension and I already had some of the parts I didn't want to leave a stone unturned and I'd also heard so much about how much better the '09 and later frames rode I wanted to make mine as good as I could get it.
