2012 Fat Bob with 120R from factory
« on: June 29, 2012, 12:53:22 PM »

I found this hard to believe, but while I was browsing through Stone Mountain Harley in Conyers GA, I found a 2012 Fat Bob that the dealer claimed come from the factory with a 120 R.  I asked to see the paperwork on it, they only showed me the tag with the price on it which was $21995.  I wasn't really interested in it, just interested in the 120 R being installed at the factory.  I still don't think it came from the factory with the 120 R, they did have a 2 into 1 Vance and Hines exhaust on it which makes me believe they modded up the bike at the dealership with the 120 R instead of the factory.  I think he was just a sales dummy.  Here is a link to the bike:

You are absolutely correct, it didn't come from H-D that way.  The moron who told you that needs to be relieved of his little name badge and official dealership ink pen.  Unless of course he's related to the dealer, in which case he will be promoted to service manager.

I would also like to know how the EPA feels about dealers selling supposedly brand new motorcycles that do not have valid emission certifications.  Last time I looked, that was a tiny bit illegal and could result in some pretty hefty fines.

Used to be we got most of our obvious scams and BS from Craigslist or ebay listings.  Now we get them from franchised dealers.  I guess the next thing will be pure BS directly from the boys in Milwaukee.  ???

Someone might have threw some bucks down on it and ordered it that way from the factory MAYBE  :nixweiss:

I know my buddy  ordered his 2000 fatboy  with a 103 in it  factory installed .

Dealer installed.  Manufacturer didn't do that.  No such factory option existed.  No matter what your buddy was told.

It's not likely that the factory did this but the easy way to tell is to look at the COO and match the frame and motor numbers to that document.

Stock cases would've been bored to make the 88 a 103 so no alteration of motor numbers.  Harley as a manufacturer simply had no such option for a new bike then.  It was a dealer thing.  Had to be.

Trust me, the factory did NOT do it.  The only factory engine for a 2000 Fatboy was the good old TC88-B; if there is anything else in that bike it was done after it was shipped to the dealer.  Ask anyone in the vehicle manufacturing business about how many millions of dollars it takes to get one powertrain approved these days, then ask yourself if you could see Harley spending that kind of money so this one guy could have a 103 factory installed in his 2000 Fatboy.

The first factory installed 103 was in 2003 in the SERK.

No biggie.  Only a piece of clarification on our side.  Hell, the dealer could have lied like a rug and told him anything to make a sale.
