What are these rivets you speak about?  Sounds like a special tool is involved.

Who wants to install mine at MV? :)

The instructions reference ACE Hardware 5/32" X 1/4" aluminum rivets which is an odd size diameter (around here anyway) and I had to order online, no problem.  You need a rivet gun to install, also relatively inexpensive.  Just drill holes per instructions and use the rivets instead of the supplied fasteners.  Does look better with the rivets.  You can handle it!

Yup. Went to local Ace Hdwe and they did not have that size. Ditto Home Depot and Lowes. But local independent 'Do It' hdwe store had them. Cheapo Harbor Freight rivet gun I already had made the install easy and clean.

LOL, this dang site.... one more thing I "must" have.... I have to admit, I hate how far my chopped pack opens! When I open it, I actually grab the cable and lower the top down to the open position, because I can hardly reach all the way over. It opens way to far right now.

We need to get them on as a site vendor.... (we? not sure who "we" are)

Got my brace the other day.  I'd like to get it installed before MV if I have time, but that probably means going with the screws.  Can I convert to the rivets later, or am I screwed if I use the screws. :nixweiss:

No reason you couldn't pull pop rivets through a hole previously occupied by a screw.

I can bring the correct rivets and rivet gun to MV and after a few swigs of berry juice, we can do the install!?

Ace Hardware has a good selection of SS rivets, they look better than the MoCo versions  :2vrolijk_21:

Maybe it would be nice if they threw the rivets in the kit since they would only cost a few pennies if bought in bulk. We spend more on gas going to Ace hardware than they cost. Raise the price another quarter and I am sure we will still buy the brace kit.

My thoughts, exactly.  For what it costs already, they should be in there. ::)

I found a gas charged lift that is rated for 10 lbs.

How do you think that would work?

Not enough room for its nearly 12" straight rod.  Need something that will articulate or bend.

 :cherry:
After reading this post a couple of weeks ago,  I bought the hinged brkt too.  After completing the installation,  I have found it helped me in two ways.

First of all,  the concern for potential torn out hinges, etc. in case of a cable failure is now gone.  But second,  the hinge has now aligned my lid so it closes properly again as it did when new.  Over a year ago,  I bought a Mustang seat and the seat back that attaches to the tour pak lid,  fits in such a manner that it slightly "warps" the lid and thus mis-aligns the lid when closing it as you had to wiggle the lid sideways to match up with the latches.  That pain in the azz is now solved too.........thanks to the new hinged brkt.

Ordered the ultra brace from J & P on Sunday, arrived and installed today (Wednesday). Cost $77.98 delivered to my door. It seems a little pricey for what you get, but it's worth it when you think about the yo yo string breaking and screwing up the paint.
