I'm going to be ordering a front fender....any ideas what to do with the original with a dent on one side near the front?
Call a dent doctor....then sell it. They normally do great work.

Just came back from a camping trip in Cotter AR.  While riding there I ht a dip in the asphalt and the handlebars broke!  they actually cracked just inside the clamps.  Cracked the inner fairing cap and the inner fairing when the broke loose.  When I got back home, I took the bike in for an estimate (I had the bars replaced in Arkansas - 3 day wait for the bars)...$825 for the inner fairing and $250 for the cap.  Six to eight weeks for painted parts.  There were no restrictions.  I hope this helps...

Now I know why they changed to a one piece bar clamp.

My Wife has a 'paintless dent removal" guy that the dealership uses........if he can do a good enough job, I might not replace it.

Yellowhog -

Hope they replaced your clamp(s) with a single clamp when they replaced your bars.  If not, get it done when your painted parts are replaced.

If the parts are being replaced on a warranty claim, then yes Harley does require the dealer to return the old parts and they do have the right to require you to surrender those parts.  However, if the parts are being replaced as part of an insurance claim, Harley has no legal claim to the old parts.  The insurance company can keep old parts they pay to have replaced and then sell them for salvage value to offset some of the repair costs.  If a dealer is trying to tell you you must give them the old parts on an insurance claim, check with the insurance company and make sure they aren't really the ones pulling the strings.  If they will release the parts to you, the dealer has no legal claim to those parts.  Some places will play the game and sell the old parts for additional profit.  A dented or scratched part that has to be replaced rather than field repaired thanks to Harley's restrictions on the paint for a CVO can still be repaired and painted a standard color and sold to anyone who wants it.  Extra profits for the dealer, using your old parts they obtained for free.  Don't fall for it.

It is best to get this all sorted out beforehand with the insurance company and the dealer, and if any particular dealer wants to play games you need to go to a more ethical establishment before ordering any parts.

dayne66,

How did your front fender get damaged? Mine was damaged from the wheel weights coming off & damaging the fender. Dealer warrantied it. Check out the threads about front fender damage on 2011 cvo ultra classic/fender replacement.

This might save you some money if it was caused by the wheel weights.

Jerry

Jerry is 100% correct... in fact when you are working with your insurance company ask them if you can keep the old parts.. Sometimes they may ask for a few bucks,, but like Jerry points out,  those old parts can be fixed and sold for big bucks.. So dont heistate if pay the insurance company a few bucks for the old parts.   :2vrolijk_21:

And if parts are under warranty then you dont have any ground,, the old parts go back to the dealer.

If its a warranty claim, then HD has a right to the parts... if insurance pays for it its the insurance companies.
