GOLD KEY QUESTION
« on: July 19, 2012, 10:46:09 PM »

Hey Ya'all...

what do most of you do with the special "gold" key that came with your bike?  i have an '05, and was wondering if i should save it for some reason, or just use it. the previous owner kept it separate and never used it. so i didn't know if there is any reason to save it because if and when i ever sell my bike it has any real monetary value when it's time for the bike to go....which could be a  long longtime...

thanks in advance and sorry for a silly question.

Not a silly question at all.
Personally I have always kept my 'Gold" key in the box and not used it. It makes a neat selling point to a buyer and I'm sure you could also sell it on Ebay or somewhere to a collector.
When I sold my 2006 the new owner loved the specialness of the key.

The finish isn't great and would show scratches and wear quickly if you used it and would be more expensive than a standard key to replace.

Other members here have put it on a chain and wear it like a necklace for themselves or their lady.

Put that Gold key on your key ring and use it.....  You spent good money for your bike and theirs not better reminder than grabbing that golden key.  Forget the next owner, it's yours now  ;D

Still in the Box I have 3 of them now, no one ever ask for them when I sold the other two CVO's.

I've sold two CVO's over the years and each time I didn't include the gold key on initial sale. The buyers in both sales came back asking me for the Gold Key, one was the following day and the other about six months after sale...  Yes, I had all right to keep the keys but I told myself I would keep the keys unless I was asked for them..    I don't know what my real plan was in keeping the keys, I dont think they are really worth anything.  :nixweiss: I also intended to follow same plan with the bike covers but in both sales the bike cover was brought up by buyers.

Since it is made out of Brass, not Gold, I use it just like any other key..

Never used mine...still in a box, in a drawer (somewhere).

Now, this is a "Man's" key (for my CVO Road Glide)...keyed for all locks. :)

I keep mine in the box, in a drawer.  IMO, if you ever sell the bike, the new owner has the right to receive all the trinkets that came with the bike originally (other than take off parts) if you still have them when you sell/trade.

Its not doing you any good sitting in a box stuffed away in a drawer somewhere. Use it! I've used mine since 08 and it still looks great.
