I've had the front shifter arm vibrate loose on my bike a couple of times, but the bolt that holds it was not loose. The 1st time I was able to torque it down a little bit and that tightened things up. The last time I had to remove the arm, lay it on a piece of wood, place a piece of wood on top and whack it with a hammer. Not a pretty solution, but its not gotten loose again........not so far anyway.
Oddly enough the rear shifter arm has not had any problems vibrating loose. [smiley=smash.gif]

MoCO is going to hire you as an engineer if you show anymore tricks to the riding public.

One of the very first things I did was take those two ugly stock bolts out of the shifter arms and replace them with chrome bolts.  Loctited the new ones at their initial installation.

Bike has seen 2000 miles so far but no loose shifter stuff on this red one.  Had it before on other bikes though.  If they were never allowed to get loose the first time the splines don't get damaged.  Then they stay ok.

I'm sure mine will be good forever now.

Either that or right up until the moment it falls off.

One or the other.

Rear shift arms are about as useful as girls who have lost the key to their chastity belt.  They may look good setting there but its tough to think of anything good to do with them?

Guess I must be lazy, but I use the rear shifter exclusively for upshifting and the toe shifter for downshifting.  Just seems much easier and a natural movement for my ol' foot.  Went through the same thing with my wife and her new HD FLSTN as she couldn't get it off of the bike quick enough.  I mentioned (not well received) that it was a blond problem, but she tried the rear shifter and kept upshifting and downshifting in reverse order.  Some very strange rev's coming from the bike when heading down the road!  Interesting that the likes and dislikes in bikes, accessories and even riding techniques makes these scoots about the most fun you can have with your clothes on.  [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif]

I'm with you BML, at first coming off a bike with only one shifter it was a little hard getting use to it.  But after several years now, I always shift up with the heel and down with the toes.  Requires almost no effort at all.

They can be fun without your clothes on too.

Wouldn't that depend on just what you were trying to get her to shift in to?
