Well if you guessed or knew it was Bryce Canyon then you are a winner!  Of course in a politically correct world we are all winners and there are no losers!  HA!

On a very clear day you can see into New Mexico from this view point.

Time to crank up the bike and head about an hour away.

Prior to entering into my next location I fueled up at a stop where there were two bus loads of Japanese tourists.  Needless to say, No English Spokane there!  I wish I brought my camera inside the store.  There you would find these tourist taking photographs of the postcards and store photographs speaking in their native tongue.  As they purchased products they would hand the clerk so much more money than they needed to purchase the item.  Sure hope those clerks are honest.

Our next location has also been photographed dozens of times by site members and I knew it was a must see too!

Part of Zion’s uniqueness comes from its geology.  Great Basin and Mojave Desert soils tend to be similar over great distances.  But Zion’s stacked prehistoric environments erode onto many soils.

Well it would be here that the Park Ranger did not like my behavior.

#1  Made a left hand turn to get into a parking lot to take these shots
#2  Made a left hand turn out of the parking lot to go into the tunnel

Both of these moves we against the law and he made sure I understood that fact.  I would have said, “I’m out of town and I do not know any better” but I suspect there are 1,000s others like me and they did not conduct the violation.  All in all, nice fellow and I did indeed conduct the violation.

Stratigraphy, the study of rock layers reveals the relative age of the rocks before you at Zion…

Top to Bottom

Temple Cap Formation
Navajo Sandstone
Kayenta Formation
Moenave Formation
Chinle Formation
Petrified Forest Member
Shinarump Conglomerate
Moenkopi Formation

Bottom Line:  The stuff is older than Fired00d’s recent birthday!
