Dino Oil in New Bikes
« on: August 02, 2012, 09:00:18 PM »

Hi Guys, I hope you are getting some good riding in this summer. My cousins kid is at the HD Training Center in Phoenix. I talk to him regular and the other day he said that his instructor told him all the new HD's are shipped with Dino oil for the break in period. Has anyone else heard about this. The way HD pushes their SYN3 you'd think it was the best thing since a "10" that owns her own liquor store.(I don't use it SYN3 that is). CAHDBIKER
I also wanted to add that mine had a SYN 3 sticker on where the engine oil goes in.

My 11 RGU came with a sticker on the derby showing it had SYN 3 in it and have seen same label on 2 new CVO Ultra Classics at Mitchell's in Modesto, CA???? Thought they were SYN 3. :confused5:

Lets pretend the instructor DID say that.
If we believe that then we have a clear explanation for the quality (or lack of quality) for techs coming from that center.
Very sad IMHO.

btw guys, CVO's are not the mainstream product, and obviously the instructor, if he really said what was reported, was talking about what oil is the factory fill in the standard bikes.  CVO's come with SYN3 in all three holes.  As for the bit about it being for break-in, that just shows his ignorance and like Chip said, it explains some of the stupid crap spewed by graduates of that program in dealerships across the nation.

Instructors are like anyone else, they have personal opinions.  A good instructor sticks to facts and keeps his unsupported opinions to himself, but unfortunately there are many so-called experts who push personal agenda's without any supporting facts at all.  It's not just a Harley thing, you hear some of the same stupid crap from folks that go to one of the independent mechanic schools too.

I don't doubt all new Harley's except CVO's do come with dino oil. Every CVO I have seen has had a Syn 3 sticker on it. Harley would be flirting with law suits if they did not have Syn 3 in the bike. Anyone who has gone to H.O.G. officers training should know that Harley does not like to take risks on law suits.
