New Pipes
« on: August 17, 2012, 10:03:25 PM »

V&H Pro Pipe Chrome. Changed out from D&D.

First the old D&D

Then the new V&H Pro Pipe Chrome. A little deeper in tone and for some reason is much cooler.  :nixweiss:

Rob:

A few questions.....for my planning.

1. Was there any seat of the pants loss in performance?
2. Did you have to use a tuner or did the stock ECM handle the pipe?

LOOKS GOOD!!

W :jalapeno: I have the V & H on my bike and would not dream of changing them out.  A buddy of mine is on his 3rd set of pipes and is now using the V&H.  He was jealous of the deeper sound.   :P

Rob:

A few questions.....for my planning.

1. Was there any seat of the pants loss in performance?

Yes....at first. The service tech wanted to dyno it but I wouldn't let them. I have a theory and so far it is proving correct. I should have more info soon. We installed the map only, I have the Harley Tuner. The bike lost some torque initially. After riding it home (100 miles super slab) and now a few rides around town, it is getting back to right at where it was with the D&D's and the dyno...heat included. I'll have more on the heat later as to whether it is permanent or just due some very long idles in stop and go traffic. I sensed it just before returning home and haven't been able to take it back out since. The ECM, IMO, re-learns after about 80-100 miles of riding several styles (open road and town for example).
2. Did you have to use a tuner or did the stock ECM handle the pipe?
See above. However, I feel a stock ECM would handle it, especially after riding it for a while.

LOOKS GOOD!!

Looks Good Rob, V&H only offered the 2 into 1 in Black when i changed mine to the HO's so i had to go with duals, Think I lost some on low end with these mufflers because they are so Free Flow, Stronger from Mid-range and up and they have a very deep rumble.  :2vrolijk_21:

I am planning on sticking one of these pipes on my 2013 Anniversary CVO Road Glide without a tuner. My sense is that the factory mods to the air/fuel maps for the SE Air Cleaner should work for the pipe too.  We'll see. If not then it's TTS Master Tune.

Thanks very much Rob!

The more I ride it the better it gets! Getting in some town riding now and the throttle response has improved a great deal. I am hoping by the time I get a couple hundred more miles on her it will be perfect....for me.
