What do yaw do to get life out your tires. I got 19000 miles and I'm on my third rear tire. my second front tire.  getting about 6000 miles out of them.  :-\ :-\ :-\

I have over 6000 miles so far on my 2010 and tires are still fine.  I ride pretty hard and have a 124 cu in. monster engine.  They're the stock Dunlops that came on the convertible.

Replaced my 200/50/18 D407 after 8500 miles, had 3/32 left, but also had a nail puncture, so safety can first.
Went the same replacement tire. I run 40 psi in the rear, 36 front. No cupping issues.

First set of HD Dunlop's were changed at a little over 8000 miles.  They had some tread left, but had cupped a lot.

Second set still has several miles remaining with 8500 on them.  They are just starting to cup a little now and I figure that I will maybe get another 1000.

The Convertible seems to wear a little faster than some other HD's ????

Independent Tire Man told me that he sees Metzlers 880 get average of 12000.  20% longer life, 20% lower price and "reported" better ride.   I started this thread to see what other Conv. owners are doing.

Don't see the 880 any cheaper than the D407/408
Dunlop $188
Metzler $237

Dunlop $188
Metzler $237
 :nixweiss:

This is the reason for the question.

Dunlop Elite  3     $197  Rear    $164  Front    Internet pricing
Metzler  880        $235  Rear     $141 bias Front   Internet pricing    63V (correct fit)  $ ???????
Harley Dunlop       $270 Rear      $261 Front     Local dealer pricing

All these would require mounting,  which is cheaper from Indy and taxes.

The only "approved" "designed" FRONT tire for the CVO Convertible in the USA is the Harley Dunlops.    The others that fit are "made" for  Goldwings, which brings me back to my question.   DO YOU BELIEVE THAT IS IMPORTANT?  Are you running non-designed on yours?   Have you information that it really makes no difference?

Thought you might be interested in this article from the Motorcycle Industry Council.

It explains the basics of tires.   It has answered some of my questions.
