Well chit!
« on: August 21, 2012, 06:48:15 PM »

Checking bike over yesterday in preparation for road trip on Wednesday, 8/22/12, when lo and behold I spy a nail right in the center of the tread of my rear tire.  So after a quick call to the dealer I am off first thing this morning for a new tire.  Thank goodness for wheel and tire coverage on ESP.  :2vrolijk_21:

Back home at lunch time and decide to double check the air pressure when I discover that I have a Dunlop American Elite on the rear vs the OEM Dunlop D407.  What the heck?  Quick call to the dealer confirms that they had a mis-shipment of the American Elites with the D407 sku.  "Thought we got 'em all out of stock but oh well I guess not."

So back to the dealer for a swap.  Not that I don't think the American Elite is a good tire but I just prefer to have matching tread patterns on both my tires.  Know what I mean Vern?

So about 5.5 hours in ride and wait time and thank goodness I finally have a new and correct rear tire.

But I'm not complaining.  Just glad I caught it here before I had a flat on the road.   :2vrolijk_21:

Just shows to go 'ya that one should always check their tires carefully before a trip, or a ride for that matter...but especially before a long trip.  Glad you caught it... :2vrolijk_21:

Does the Elite even have the correct load rating?

The Elite does have the correct load rating.  I am running it on the rear of my 12.  When the front is ready to be changed, I will be using Elites on both.

What kind of mileage are you getting with the Elites?  Tire life, that is...

The 407's seem to have a relatively long tread life compared to days of old...obviously, you've worn out one rear...how many miles did you get out of it?  Just curious, even though my bike has 18's on both ends, so there's going to be some difference, I'm sure.

I changed the rear at 10K and there was still a couple thousand left rubberwise, but the handling sucked since the tire had squared due to a lot of highway mileage.  Only have about 2K on the Elite so far but I like it.  Used the R3's exclusively on the 05 so I thought I would try the Elites.

Great catch on the nail... :2vrolijk_21:...was it even 'leaking' before you got to the shop?  Did you ride it in or trailer it for the for the 1st tire?  spyder
