I had to step away for awhile, back now and can't say thanks enough for everyone's in put. I'm expanding my search a little to include BMW. I really would like a Italian Bike, however I forgot why I started  to ride Harley's in the first place(just did not respect the sport bikes anymore and was going to kill my self on one). I'm on the list for 2013 RG CVO and will wait to see a few in person before final decision. Can not afford both bikes, has to be one or the other.  I value everyone's opinion here and thanks again u Rock!

I hope you got the message... Go with the Ducati! Just try to keep the HD if you can.

All fine bikes, but like someone mentioned earlier, consider the purpose. If you want to look sexy, go fast, and carve corners, those are excellent choices. Speaking only for myself (closer to 60 than 40) I'd only be good for about one tank of gas, then it's time for Advil and a hot tub. Plus when I get there, now I gotta carry my helmet, jacket, chaps, and stuff everywhere.

In my "old age", I've come to value comfort, dependability, and cost. Most Harleys meet one out of the three criteria. If I wanted a "sport bike", my choices would be Kawasaki Concours 14, BMW RT, or GoldWing.

I say buy it. If you don't like it, sell it and buy something else. You only live once.

Ducati Negatives:

1. Expensive service.
2. Lack of dealerships.

Ducati Positives:

1. The "cool" factor.
2. That Ducati sound.

Why not used DUC? That's how I purchased my 1996 900 SS/CR. Just be sure to SEE THE MAINTENANCE RECORDS !!! If that EYETALIAN beauty has been abused she wil not be happy and you will be the one to pay. Mine had excellent service history, was owned by a DUC mechanic, and was priced right several years ago when I purchased her and on those days when I feel the need for a rush of a ride I take it out for a spin to carve some local back roads - no long distance ride that's for sure, the ergos are not meant for that.

I don't honestly think you can even try and compare riding a DUC to riding a HD. The duc is all high RPM (bike doesn't wake up until 4500 on the tach and when it does wake up you best be ready) high speed rush. The HD is lets settle in a enjoy the scenery, low RPM high torque cruising.

bang for  the buck ya can't beet a suzuki, the 1 liter or the busa show me a bike that can compete with them, i have a 1340 busa running low 9 sec.,( i way 250 suited) , only seen  a couple of DUC. on the track , couldn't even compete at all,...busa's have  a cult following like HD,..i like HD's , never had  a jap bike in 40 years until i got a busa , baddest  mo.fo. i ever rode, take  a ride on both, you'll be hooked, if what you want is proformance...i'm not trying to bash your idea, good luck bro :bananarock:

i have a 2011 cvo ultra (red one), 2008 cvo Dyna and sold a 2004 deuce for a 2012 1098 ducati streetfighter. the duc is by far my favorite bike. I don't think I'll buy another Harley, you spend to much money to just make em rideable. Ride the multi it's amazing. I ting the Harley guys need to "stop drinking the kool aid". BTW I'm 55 5'8" wt 240 so you don't have to be shape to ride em.

A couple of months ago I bought a 2012 multistrada, I 've wanted 1 for awhile now.  The service is cheaper than a HD it takes longer to get parts.  They are  different bikes the ducati is quicker has a faster top speed and handles better than I can ride it.  But if I take a trip with the wife it's going to be on the HD it is just a better bike to pound the miles with on a long trip.  It has become my daily ride and does good in rush hour traffic.  Theres a reason Ductai set a new record at Pikes Peaks again this year.

Dave, you ole dog. Good for you, I've been eyeing the MS for awhile now. Would have to get rid of one of the other toys first though. Guess the Trials bike is out for now? Roger
