« on: August 25, 2012, 10:37:51 AM »

Ok, so now I dont wanna wait for my FLHRSE5 and I'm thinking of getting the Roadglide they just got.  How hard/costly to switch over to a batwing?

Or am I crazy and just get the RK

You seem to be dead set on getting a batwing bike..why not just find a '12 SESG or SEUC and go from there...or do you just really want a '13? No offense..it's just way easier to buy the bike already built....You are going to spend top dollar and then go home a rip the bike apart. Unless you get the SERK and add the fairing, then at least it way easier to install and you can remove it without a lot of work.

I did that to my bike. As far as cost you could probably do it by selling your rg front end and pick up all the batwing fairing on eBay/Craigslist, for not much out of pocket. Paint would probably cost the most. I sold my rg fairing and ended up making about $750 when all was said and done.

Just thinking out loud again. :P

Keep looking. You'll find something.   Makes no sense to do what you are thinking. A bike is what it is and would be a huge job and expense to convert.   They are out there.   Just be ready to pull the trigger when you see something you like. You snoooze you loooze will happen.  I saw someone here just sold his 12 sesg3 in something like 2 days.   He got his asking price, but there won't be a 13.   And you want to keep a CVO what it is anyway.  Good luck with your search.  YOu will find one.   When you do, post lots of pics.  :2vrolijk_21:

Keep looking and spend the money on a plane ticket instead of converting the RG. You get the bike you want and a riding vacation too.

I agree that getting a RG and changing it to a SG is WAY too much time/money/effort.  If you are set on a SESG and their isn't one for 2013, have you considered a 2012 SEUC and spending the extra bit to make the tour pack a detachable one...see quite a few of these modified UC's in East Tennessee.  Makes good sense if you can't find a SESG as you can have the SG look until you are ready to travel, then install the tour pack.... :bananarock:

Personally I feel if you love a certain colour and it just happens to be a RG, then just do what FireGuy has done and change it to the way YOU want it.

I have seen pics of FireGuy's bike on this site before and I think it looks amazing!  It certainly is a "custom" bike to say the least.

Maybe we can coach him into posting the pics again here for you to have a look and see how wonderful it looks.

Good luck with it.

I just don't like the dual headlamp look is all. I think I'm calmed down and gonna stick with the RK. As was said I can get a detachable batwing for a lot less hassle if I even choose to do it. Riding to Syarcuse on Wednesday to look at one they have. It's #4 of 900. My HD still didn't get the one I have a deposit on. Having a hard time waiting any longer!!!

I know that this is the big "Ford/Chevy" deal but I think once you ride one with the performance of the fairing attached to the frame (especially in any time of wind situation), you might feel different IMHO..
