It's best eaten in a movie theater where you are distracted and don't have to see or think about what it is. As a kid my dad was stationed in the Phillippines. I remember sidewalk vendors selling those outside movie houses along with chicken feet. The cracking and slurping sounds in the theater was really gross. Theses nothing like seeing "The Sound Of Music" while people all around you are eating Balut.

If you were going through CPO initiation back in the 80's and they told you to eat one (or more), you would eat it.  They are not good.

As most of you know, I travel the world for work,  I do try the local fare however I just couldn't even make an attempt on Balut (I guess I'm too much of a wimp!!!), but it does make me wonder.......Who invented that chit???

That is simply BEYOND disgusting. Some of the stuff people eat in other cultures is just incomprehensible to me.

In Mexico, my wife has eaten ant larvae tacos that grossed me out when she told me about it. But now seeing balut - those tacos are sounding pretty good...
