Zumo 660 - 665
« on: August 30, 2012, 09:17:19 AM »

OK guys, I know there is lots of info on here about this but it's actually too much to sift through.

Keep it simple please.........

What is the main differences between the 660 and the 665?

What is the difference between ordering a 660 or 665 from HD or a non-HD?

Thanks for the help!!

The 665 can attach a seperate sat. antenna for radio and weather. The H-D units have H-D dealerships preloaded.

In addition to the preloaded HD data base, the HD version will work with the HD NIM, the Garmin version will not.

As mentioned, the 665 has it's own XM antenna that can also get traffic and weather information to display, so you could listen to everything with a pair of earbuds (including MP3's).

If you ever think you might get a bagger that does not come with the GPS/NIM, and IF you can get the HD Roadtec version for about the same price as the Garmin, I'd opt for the HD version.  If memory serves, you also get an extra year on the warranty for the GPS.

What about the 550 compared to the 660?

The latest iteration of the 660 and 665 from Garmin (with an "LM" suffix on the model number) come with free lifetime map updates.  Given the rate of failure some of this early product had (memory card reading problems for many) it might be a tough call for some.  But I'd trade a year's warranty for map updates forever.  Can buy a year's extended service agreement somewhere for less than the lifetime maps license after the fact should one want them.

My credit card doubles the warranty, up to 2 extra years, on anything without an engine. And, lifetime maps can be had on e-Bay for $52.

JMO but if you can put off getting one. Wait.... Xmas is around the corner and I'll bet ya anything Garmin will be coming out with a new model with things that we really want. Like a screen that can be read in direct sunlight! (Like the Montana)https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=75226
And Android based OS. They have to do something to beat back the smartphone influx. The technology is already out there. All they have to do is put it all in one package. A lot of the new cars already have it.

Dealer told me today that the HD version of the 660/665 will include lifetime updates when new one arrives closer to Xmas.  As of now, it does not.

Thanks for the replys, I guess I'll wait and see what comes at Xmas time.

I though all the HD versions came with life time updates??
