Ok, Ive done a non scientific test.

V&H 4" Slash Cut Rounds:  These were on the bike when I bought it, lots of backfiring, decel popping, rough idle when cold.  I dont like the look.  Trading material.

2009 OEM touring muffs (no cats):  No backfiring or decel popping, smooth idle, pings at WOT.  They look like ass.  I cant give them away, Ive tried.

2006 OEM CVO muffs:  I bought these NIB for $120 shipped.  The bike runs great  Sounds like baby farts at WOT.

My conclusion is that anything other than OEM requires more fuel.

If I can trade the V&H for a set of SE or CVO muffs without cats I will do a fulsac on those and add the Big Sucker and a PCV V retrofit.  I want to keep the 06 end caps, I like them.

Now Guys, I'm not sure we have taken everybody into consideration here. Maybe his wife doesn't want him riding a
fast Harley that sounds good? We all know how it is, you stop at a light and out of no where some skinny chick with
big boobs is climbing on the back of your bike because it sounds fast and she wants a good ride.
This may not be the right thing for him, big boobs bouncing around and riding fast.
From time to time even I struggle with it.

06 FLHTCUSE, bone stock, no performance mods.  I bought it a month ago with 5000 miles on it, Ive put about 2500 miles on, so 7500 miles now.

I rode about 300 miles today.  The bike still pings at WOT under a load, thats with 93 octane, usually 10% ethanol.

103 CVO, possibly the best 5 speed Bagger ever made. You need a high flow AC to get started. A pair of 2.0 cores for your stock CVO mufflers will remove the cat
and sound nice. Tuning: TTS is best,  but if the budget is tight, a simple PC on a non O2 sensored Delphi will sorta get you by for now. The pinging issue may be hard to deal with properly. Later on if you decide to add cams, really need to ditch the PC and step up to the TTS for a professional tune.
