ultrafixer, yea I used a dremel to remove the small peice of plastic (a bit more then 1/8th) I drilled through the speaker box but not through the leather then I cut the leather with a xzacto knife. smaller then needed for the connector to go through. the leather stretches and gives you a good tight fit hope this helps

You bet.  Thanks for the info.  Look forward to doing mine.

GC_Super; Good point, we don't want to make the Mrs unhappy by trying to fix another problem.  I will stick to the outside.  By the way, I was down at the local HD and they just received in a brand new re/black Ultra.  I did take a close look at how they mounted the passenger com, and it's just like what has been done here on the forum ::)  Now I have a project to do. :)

The lower cord for the J & M units does simplify things.  My wife just left the lower cord plugged into the bike and the cord laying across the seat.  Much easier to just plug the lower cord into the short cord on the helmet than trying to get to that mess over the saddle bag.

Anybody find a part number for the 07 speaker pod headset plug?
It has to be different then the tank pod plug because there is not enough throw on the threads.

Agree.  I checked with my dealer on Tuesday.  He did not have a parts catalog supplement for the '07 CUSE so could not tell me anything.  Be interested when anyone finds out. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

The soft rubber like material that is around the outside of the connector must be trimmed back.
If you use a new blade in a shop knife it cuts very easily.
Trim around the outside back a little more than 1/8" probably more like 3/16". Under the soft outer coating is the harder plastic that the threads are part of. This cut will reveal a shoulder that is molded into the hard plastic with the threads . The shoulder will keep the connector from pulling through the speaker housing and there is enough thread length there to extend out through the housing and the leather just don't drill the hole larger than 3/4".

It is very very difficult to hold the connector from the back side, the cover open and in position from the outside when trying to get the retaining ring started on the threads. Be very careful not to cross thread the ring and don't over tighten it when you do get it started.

Sorry I didn't take some pictures when I did mine. The hardest part of the whole job was getting that little ring started correctly on the threads and to get some pic's now I would half to disassemble it and I really don't want to go through that all over again.

Hope this helps!

Just did my headset plug relocation and took a few pics along the process.
I did remove the speaker pod for the modification and then simply reinstalled when job was completed. It was already mentioned at the begining of this tread to unplug and remove the existing connections inside pod out thru the hole at the bottom corner of the speaker pod.
