110 CVO Stage III upgrade
« on: September 17, 2012, 11:33:26 PM »

Anyone done this kit yet?  Seems like a pretty easy / inexpensive path past 1 hp/ft lb per cu in. If you already have a tuner shouldn't be much more than $750 or so. Relatively simple install, hardest part is the cams change.

Bikerdad, I had 10.5 to one pistons and S.E. heads in my 95 Heritage and I had to run 100 octane or it would ping alot. Since then I have changed to 107S&S. It has about 9.3 to one compression lots more power and no pinging. CAHDBIKER

Had this kit installed this summer. Also have to run high octane fuel now.You lose a little in 1st and 2nd but after that the bike will scream. You can do 120 in a heartbeat. But the settup also does not like lugging around or low rpms. 3000 or higher.I like the sound better also.Installed thunder monster baffle also with this mod. But, if you like low end torque its hard to beat the 255's.i like going fast so im happy.Good luck.

I have the kit also and love it as it fits my riding style.  On 93 Octane gas here in Florida I have not had any pinging issues.  Titansfan is correct though, you do lose a little down low but really not enough to notice in my opinion.   But if you don't shift above 4200 rpm a good cam swap and few other mods will net you about the same results as the kit.  Plenty to read here to make a decision.  Good luck with whatever you do.

I installed this kit with the 259e cams and ran it for a while then changed to the wood 777 has better low end torque and no loss on the top end.

I debated the tw 777 and wish I would have gone that route.  Did you have to use different push rods then the ones in the kit?

I just received the 777 cam, lifters, pushrods and gasket kit from Fuelmoto.
I bought the SE 10.5 pistons from HD a few months ago. I have a Power Vision tuner with the Autotune wide band O2 sensors installed. That is a slick setup for tuning the map I have gotten from vendors.
I also have a Dragos Dragula 2 into 1 exhaust which sounds great.
In a couple of months I'll tear it apart and install the new stuff listed in line 1.
I'll let you know how this all turns out. I have to take it up to Gettysburgh for a dyno run to document "my stage 1" vs. the "my stage 2" results. I already have a baseline dyno when it was stock.

I too was torn between the SE259 cams and the Woods 777. My brother has their 555 cam and loves it. The Woods cams come in a little sooner than the SE cams is why I finally settled on them.

Yes, I used the SE adjustable push rods, main issue is to get a good tune on the bike.

'Have a bit over 3k mi on the SE Stage III Pro Kit in the '09 SERG so far. I really like it, it suits my riding style better than the "all low end" of the stock motor.
It was a cost effective decision for me as far as hop-ups go, and keeps my ESP relatively intact.

No pinging either in FL or the Blue Ridge Mtns. I run high test (93) in my lawn mower, so running high test is not an issue for me.

'Just have a bit of a flat spot around 3k with the SEPST that will be tuned out or I will go to PCV/Auto.

"The Ball & Chain" and I are heading out West next week for some "sport touring". 'Will let y'all know how it behaves when we get back...

I had concerns about putting in 10.5's, especially with the summers around here. My mech told me the 110 would be fine as long as I stayed below 11.0.  With the cams and head work, I'm at 10.3 now; the bike is a totally different animal, though. I normally run 91 or 93 octane, and haven't had any issues.

How do you like the 58mm TB ? What does it do for the Stage III Kit?
Where is the rev limiter on your build?

Without the 58 mm TB the Dyno was 107hp/108tq. I noticed an incredible difference in throttle response also. Probably the cheapest hp on the bike.
