Tire pressure
« on: September 22, 2012, 07:10:28 PM »

So I just checked the air in my new Road Glide. Front 32 back 32. Tires say 41 lbs cold front 42 lbs cold rear. Should they be 10 lbs under?  What do you recommend.

Fill 'em up while they are cold to 41 lbs.

Your owner's manual has the tire inflation specs, and that's the best place to look for answers.  As to the numbers on the sidewall of the tire, those are the MAXIMUM cold inflation pressures per the tire manufacturer, not necessarily the recommended pressures.

If I remember correctly, Harley recommends 36 psi front, 40 psi rear.  Consider those the minimums, and if you choose to increase the pressure don't exceed the sidewall numbers.  Get in the habit of checking the pressures often, especially during this time of year when ambient temperatures can start dropping pretty quickly.  Your tire pressure will drop approximately 1 psi or each 10° drop in temperature.

Did you miss this the first time you read the owners manual cover to cover?? Or at least scanned it?
Older I get the more I read owners manuals and sometimes I am amazed at what I find out. Stuff I have known for 30 years but forgot suddenly comes back. Read them, cars, bikes, guns whatever - reading the book is a good idea.
