nervous about jump starting
« on: October 06, 2012, 09:51:08 PM »

I got a 07 ultra cvo. I've not had it long & it has the original h.d. bat. witch is getting a bit lazy well I think a lot lazy I half to put it on charge each night or she won't flip over the next day at the moment can't fork out the cost to replace it. My concern is if I'm out & about at some time that she my not fire up at one time & I'll have to jump start her I've never done it be for :nixweiss:.
I would much appreciate any input of dos or don't or any kind danger of causing damage to anything by jump starting the battery.

If you jump it from a car, do so with the car NOT running.  That way you are jumping off the battery, not their charging system, which could cause issues.

Connect the positive cable on the discharge battery to the pos. on the booster battery, then connect the booster negative to a safe ground away from the battery on your bike.  Like he said make sure the booster battery isn't on a running vehicle to prevent electrical damage to your bike.

If you were anywhere near me I would give you a spare battery that I have, but I see you're across the pond!  Best wishes!

Don't know if this might help.  But just in case....

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/130769448015

A buddy of mine up by Blackpool told me a week ago about buying a battery for enough less than the Harley shop would have charged he was "gobsmacked" by the savings.  I did have to confirm this was a good thing.

That link above is to the same model battery he got.  Checks out as correct size for an 07 touring model.  Hopefully 75 quid is a good enough price to help you out.
