Comparison Shopper CVO to EGUC Limited
« on: October 21, 2012, 03:04:31 PM »

Stopped by the dealer today hoping to find some CVO's to show wife to get her approval on color.  Mind you, I have not been in a HD shop for 4 years.

What I found were several Electra Glide Ultra Limiteds and UC's with a 103 engine in them.  I had owned a 103 in an '05 SEEG and really enjoyed it.  Is this the same engine, and if not, what would be the differences?  What would it take, if possible, to bring it to the SEEG's 103 both component wise and approx $$$.

They were not real high on CVO 110's. (maybe because they didn't have one  :nixweiss:

Here is my dilemma.  The EGUltraLimited's and UC were @ $24K and a CVO 110 would be in the $39K+ area.  What do I get performance, reliability and cosmetically for $15,000?

Thanks for your help.

For your $15K you get a 110" engine, custom paint, heated seat, heated grips, a GPS, an iPod, highway pegs, ABS brakes, a cover, bag liners and a boatload of chrome goodies. I just picked up a '12 CVO Ultra ($1700 under MSRP) and I could not be happier. If you have the coin (and the dealer is not gouging you on the price) I'd do it. I have two friends with 103" Ultra's and they are happy with their rides also. Don't quote me on this, but I think you have to bore the cases to bump a 103 to a 110. There are kits to take a 103 to a 106/107 without boring the cases.....figure a couple of grand to up the cubic inches. I have not heard of any unusual reliability issues with the 110" engine.

Have you ridden your friend's Ultras to see what the performance difference is?  Wasn't really thinking about "boring" the 103 to take it to a 110.  If there is a major performance difference, I may have to do a Stage 1 or 4 to boost it.  The Limiteds have the heated grips and I am not sure but don't all the models have ABS since 2008?  :nixweiss:

I have the coin, but I am Scottish and I pinch the penny until Lincoln squeals.  ;)  Really I am just frugal, my wife says tight.  If the new CVO is worth the money, I will go with it, just trying to "justify" the investment.

Thanks.

you might want to look into resale value. You get what you pay for and if you are the type of guy that really uses and enjoys his mc, it is absolutely worth it up front not to mention what you can get for it on the other side. I guess it depends on just how hard you want to "squeeze" that penny and what means more to you, the "squeeze" or the ride?

You may want to look at this carfully! The Limited will bring back more dollars after a few years then a CVO.
I have looked into it, and not saying I would do it, but Limiteds usually are discounted when purchased,
and after 2/3 years you will honestly lose less dollars. I know this may bring up an argument, but just look
at people trying to trade in their CVO's on this website, and see what stealers want to give them!!!

I have not ridden my buddies 103's, but I have owned an 80", 88" and 96" ElectraGlides over the years. All have had enough power to haul my fat a$$ around with no problem. It's a touring bike, not a crotch-rocket. If I feel the need for speed, I break out the 160HP C14 and go for a blast!

You may be right Tazmun, I just remembered when I bought mine 6 months ago that I looked into finding a used one (couldn't find a new one in the area) either current year or 1/2 years old and they were actually going for over MSRP on a new one. Ended up having to go 1000 miles away to get a new one. I will admit that I was making an assumption though and probably spoke before having all the facts. My wife would tell you that wasn't the first time. :-[

I just switched from a 2011 Limited to a 2012 CVO Ultra, which I got for $2,500 under MSRP.  The limited is a great bike and the 103 has had many improvements, including SE Compensator, improved breather for the heads, etc., etc.

I too am very tight on my dollars, but having purchase the CVO Ultra I believe it is well worth it, and did not even consider the 110 ci motor as any incentive.  Just all the extra's beyond your expectations.  The linings in the tour pack & saddle bags, lighting in both, hydraulic clutch, IPOD, GPS, bike cover, chrome f/end, beautiful (and I mean beautiful) chrome wheels, very comfortable dual heated seat, top of the line paint job, down to the chrome end bolts and metal air cap stems, everything is very very nice.

Initially, I had a hard time justifying the expense of the CVO, but once you realize all that it comes with it, you realize you are not being short changed and you cannot come anywhere close putting  together the ammenities that are standard on a CVO for the cost of upgrading the limited.

If you do not plan on upgrading all the extras that go with the CVO, onto the limited get the Limited.  If you plan on upgrading, save yourself time, money, and trouble by buying the CVO.  JMHO, and I am tight on the dollar!

If you go with the Limited drop in a SE 204, a TTS Mastertune, Arlen Ness Big Sucker, and some good 2-1 pipes, and that will be a runnin SOB, I guarantee it!  Bullet proof!  I can't vouch for the 110ci, I just don't know.

I will never buy a non-CVO bike again, providing this 110 motor proves reliable.

PS, you can buy the 2012 CVO Ultra all day long for $35K on Cycletrader, just refuse pay setup & freight.

Chevy or a Caddy.

Both get the job done.

I bought a 2010 ULTRA Limited, changed the Cams to Andrews, changed exhaust, cleaned up the heads, bike ran great. Drove it around Alberta for awhile then took it  down to Phoenix. While it was in Phoenix got a call from the salesman who sold me the bike asking me if I would consider selling the bike back to them as they had someone who wanted one real bad (it was the blue) after going back and forth on what I wanted for it, they agreed to my price. Since it was winter trailered  bike back to Red Deer.

I then found a 2010 CVO ULTRA (red & black) bike at an HD Dealer in Langhorne, Penn with only 700 miles on it and had V&H Exhaust, SERT and some chrome goodies for a great to me price. Had shipped to Phoenix and it now has 17,500 miles on it.

I really like the ULTRA Limited however I like my CVO ULTRA even better.

I'd say the Limited is more of a Buick than a Chevy, but I agree with what you are saying.

To the OP:
It's only going to be worth it (dollar wise) if you are going to do a few of those add ons.
If you are staying stock go with the Limited.

And from a soon to be (for sale now) Goldwing owner, what would the reasoning behind this be???

He's talking about the engine idle temperature management system that shuts down the rear cylinder at idle when the engine temperature gets to a predetermined level.  It's standard on all the Touring bikes these days, not just the CVO's, so it's not a consideration in your "either -  or" decision.
