USAir has cancelled flights to the northeast.
Last night they brought in about 40 planes from those areas for safekeeping in Charlotte.

Flooding between the beach road and bypass. High tide was at 7:40am. If the water had been  few inches higher it would have gone over the bypass which would have cut off the southern beaches. Last time that happened was the Halloween storm.

The van on the left is a good 1000ft from the ocean and the water is inside it. The water is like this from the 1 mile post to the 6 mile post.

By three today the winds will be 50 mph sustained with gust to 75 for 12 hours. Dock is underwater with the tide 4 feet above. By next tide it will be 6 feet above. As the storm passes the water will go out of the bay and the tide will be 3-4 feet below normal. I'm sure power will be out in an hour or so for a few days.
We were in Texas yesterday to come back today. The airline sent us home yesterday or said we might not get back until Thursday or Friday.
Still better then 30 below and snow.......

Been through a few of these when I lived in Ga, Fla and Texas.  If along the coastline anywhere near the eye, haul a**.  You don't want to be there.  The water can come up so fast, you have no way out, but up or in the drink.  The cold weather front is going to make for a huge mess of ice and blizzard like conditions.  Find a place to hold up and don't leave.

Have your parties elsewhere.  You get just as drunk and are safer.

As a Telecommunications Engineer and Manager, I spent over 30 years arriving on site the day after these storms hit and have been through a few myself.   They are highly unpredictable, spawn tornadoes and can kill very easily.

My prayers for all who are affected by this storm.

I rode south down the bypass at 12:30 to meet Kathy for lunch. Road was crystal clear, no water.

2 hours later.........water rose 4 feet

Storm prep complete at home and work. Now we hunker down and wait for the angry *itch to go away so we can begin the recovery effort.

Not much to do now but listen to the wind howl and have a drink  :drink:

I'm far enough inland that flooding shouldn't be an issue but I'm fairly certain we'll lose power for a few days at least. Will probably have plenty of debris to clean up around home.

STAY SAFE.
