A question for those of you that have anniversary CVOs and the gloss black power train covers. How is the black applied - is it paint over chrome? How easy would it be to scratch the black cover? Would it show scratches more easily than chrome? I would be concerned that some mechanic would slip up taking a bolt out and put a noticeable scratch on the black cover. I was thinking about getting one of the anniversary models but when I noticed this I became a bit leery.

Why would HD go through the expense to chrome it first then paint?  My guess it's probably powder coated or a quality 2 stage paint that's baked on over a good primer.

Be very careful what you clean it with. Very soft cloth is in order!

You can buff out light scratches too, thank god!

Any regrets buying the '13 anni? Do you like the color?

I love it now. Did t like the black till everyone that sees it complements it. Just use a soft microfiber cloth and you'll be fine. You can always change it out for chrome later.

I too had the same reservations as you. Not any more!

I use only micro fiber cloth on my bikes. I know black is tough but knowing that I wasn't the only one concerned and that others are not having issues makes me feel better.

So what are you cleaning with besides microfiber? My rockers seem a little hazy, possibly heat related haze.
I love the look but chrome is easier to clean for sure.

Whatever the colour we all wash .polish detail etc the clearcoat surface.

I used a not so new microfiber cloth once.......never again. It just wasn't soft enough. Now I use a really soft one with Ardex spray wax or S100 wax with no problems
