Storage blues
« on: November 04, 2012, 03:39:36 PM »

Well i am getting ready to put the buke uo for the winter, really dreading it.
Anyway, my garage is not the most water proof, it does not leak from the roof but seaps in around the bottom.  Not sure if i will have a dry day to fix it anytime soon, so i was wondering if i should use the CVO cover or not?  I was thinking it might hold moister and the garage is not going to be heated.

Thanx all

If you have electricity in the garage get a dehumidifier... that will help with moisture and you can use your cover. :2vrolijk_21:

Don't cover your bike if you have a moisture problem in your storage area. Fix the moisture problem. Even a heated area with moisture will ruin the bike.

Biggest problem with a moist area is temperature change.  Condensation with every cool down.  If no other choice than to store there, I would spray everything down with WD40 or S100 Corrosion Protectant.  Put on the cover, and put a small heat source near the bottom, and inside the cover.  Don't burn your bike and garage down.  Have used a 25W light bulb before, but a better choice would be a piano heater:

Move to where you can drive all year long and the storage problem goes away...

Have you considered using one of those storage bubble things. I think they are called Carcoon Bike Bubbles.

That's odd (piano heater), I've never owned a piano but any avid shooter will recognize that as a gun safe dehumidifier!  :huepfenlol2:

That link is a pretty good tool, I quick search of my local weather shows I am at risk for 5-6 months out of the year.  Now I am paranoid - before just concerned.

SmokeyJoe, to properly store a CVO it should be inside your house close to your stripper pole and 80 inch TV so you can have a dancer over while you sit on your bike drinking a beer with your stereo blasting. Oh wait I just woke up.CAHDBIKER
