Well my origional 2006 battery could not crank over in 45 degree weather with the tender unplugged 2 minutes before starting. I'm thinking it is time to replace. i have searched and read several articles on here about OEM, Deka, Odyssey and Big Crank. I have also read up on people buying them through Indy shops, Ebay and other battery outlets.

My question is that my battery is an OEM 2006 and has lived a great life and tendered when not ridden so where to turn? Do I wait for a 20% off sale at the MoCo or look at the others?

I know there are some current battery articles/posts (within the last year) and some older. What are you using and are you happy?

Thanks,

Rick

I replaced my battery earlier this year after 7 years 7 months on the original battery. Replaced it with another OEM battery during a sale at dealership where I got 20% off.

Thanks d00d. I'm leaning that way seeing we are going into winter so I can wait it out a few months. If not I think I'm leaning on a Deka.

I haven't used one, but I don't see any need to spend $300 for a lithium ion battery for a Harley.  They claim all sorts of benefits like much lighter weight, etc., but the difference in weight for one to fit a Touring model is less than 5 pounds.  Not exactly a big deal when you're riding a 850-950 pound motorcycle IMHO.  And the CCA ratings aren't exactly earth shaking either.

Li-ion batteries seem to be fine for cordless tools, but I fail to see any compelling reason to use one in a Harley instead of the AGM batteries that come standard.  You can buy the Deka version of the Harley battery for less than $100 in many places.  There are tons of satisfied users on all the Harley forums, and when it's time for my next replacement it will be a Deka.

I'm out on the Li-ion until the price comes way down. But thank you

Info for us at APO addresses overseas. Latus out of Oregon will ship a battery free if over $149.00. Got one for my RK for $156.00. Received in one week to Korea.

Just one data point.  But I've been using a Deka in the Road King during what's been its first year of service.  Just works.  No issues at all.

Back in April put a Deka battery in my wifes Road King, worked great all summer. Shopped around on Ebay got it for $95.00 with free shipping. My 09 with oem battery has cranked slow a couple times lately so next spring a new Deka will be installed. I think for the price they are hard to beat.

I'm leaning H-D at 20% sale or Deka which ever I find before spring.   Thanks Guys

Deka makes the HD batteries and you can buy them much cheaper without the HD logo.

Dittos on the Deka!  Replace every four years and you'll not be stranded by an old battery.
